| im building a 1600 DP thats going into the shop to be put together but as i checked the rods one didnt turn as asmoothly as the others. i tried the one on all the rod journels but nothing...what should i do? ive spent too much time and money on it and i want it done without it screwing up... any opinions would be awesome... :shock: :shock: :shock: :( :evil: :?: :!: |

| Go to FLAPS and buy some plastigage, it's only a couple buck and will tell you if you have the correct bearing clearance. |

What are the measurements on the crank and the bearing? |

If you tried the rod on all four journals and it is tight on all four, then it's either the side clearance or the large end needs the cap cut and resized. |

X2, most likely the big end of the rod is out of round.
You are putting the cap on correctly with the bearing tangs facing each other correct? also the correct number match cap and rod.
I know silly question, but you never know. |

| the rod journels are supposed to be .010 or however it is..but im not sure on the mains..ive got the cap on correct and everything...i test fit it two years ago and it turned just fine...ive done nothing to the rods ever. im gonna be getting the case put together but i dont want to spend more than what i have to in oder to get the engine running again....what should i do? |

You are torquing the bolts to spec on the rod prior to turning it correct?
The big end does not round out until torqued down. |

| yes i have...but even just putting them togetherit doesnt want to move easily..im bout to the poit of just giving up and letting the vw shop take care of it instead of me...i dont exactly know everything about the inside of the engine..im more of an 'outsider'...if that makes sense.... |
