What is the difference between a White Star and a Wolfsburg Edition Vanagon?

crazyvwvanman Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:44 am

The White Star and Blue Star are basically 1989 versions of what had been called the Wolfsburg. Same interior other than fabric and a few small details. By 89 they stopped using the Wolfsburg moniker and it became Carat. All of the preceding had rear facing jumpseats and side table that flipped up. The 2 Stars had diagonal stripe pattern in the fabric while the others were plain fabric.

This is my understanding, someone may know differently.

WhiteStar:
It was White
Was '89 only
Striped seats
Carpeted kickboard under rear seat
Grey Dash
Same as Bluestar except that the Bluestar was.... blue

anyone else?

The two previous posts are right on with their information. In a nutshell

1989 Star Blue Wolfsburg Edition = euro market Bluestar

1989 Pastel White Wolfsburg Edition = euro market Whitestar

Incidentally, the coveted leather wrapped steering wheel on the US Wolfsburg editions was never a feature of the euro market Bluestar and whitestar.

I have an '89 auto 7-passenger with the wolfsburg moniker AND striped fabric seats, carpeted kickboard under the rear seat, grey dash, rear facing jumpseats, flip top table...is there such a thing as a Wolfsburg Whitestar?

Hey, don't forget the blackstar....

captainpartytime - can you post some pics of the interior? I found all your pics of the exterior - nice van.
My wife is looking for one like yours - it will be her 4th Vanagon. She keeps getting more picky - one like your's would be just what she wants.

What you have is a Whitestar. It just wasn't called that in the US. In the US they were just called 1989 Vanagon GL Wolfsburg Edition, but it is the exact same package as the euro Whitestar model.

The only differences:

-Euro Whitestar has rear window jailbars.
-Euro Whitestar has the cool black filler panels between the tail lights.
-Euro Whitestar is badged as a Multivan rather than a Vanagon GL
-Euro Whitestar has Hannover Edition badge in place of Wolfsburg badge.
-Euro Whitestar has 5 speed manual trans and option of 1.6TD.
-US model has the upgraded "base reflex" speaker beside the table.
-US model has leather wrapped steering wheel.

I think this is everything. I may have forgotten a few details, but you get the idea.

You nailed it:
I also have the upgraded "bass reflex" speaker next to table and leather wrapped steering wheel!

Thanks. Unfortunately she is trying to die on me at the moment. I'll try and get some pics of the interior within the next couple of days.
