74 supers seems to be really popular. almost everytime i see someone else at a gas station or whatever and ask them what year, they say 74 super.

I am new to all this and found this gem. I just love it. Working on rust today until the snow started. Snow isn't good for welders and electric grinders.

ah gotcha.... 72's are my fave... and early 73's arent half bad guess... the curved windshield grew on me after i had one as a DD

BugMan114 Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:27 pm

lol, nice

Is it just me, or are wheels painted the same color as the body, make it look that much awsome-er? my yellow 74 super has black wheels and looks like shit to me. i spray painted on wheel, and it looks so much better. to bad i ran out of spray paint

Endicott jb Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:28 pm

meh, curved windshields are cool, but are un-choppable for two reasons. One, is i hate the look, and two is that its a PITA trying to get glass for it. I'm going with the rat rod look for my super. and am going to graft in a flat windshield to chop. Oh, and i hate struts

i wish i could match the yellow on my car! but i am not going to paint my Gurney's!

I would if i could ever get my lazy ass up and do it  , and i drive it almost everyday, and have no time to take the tire off, blast the wheel, heat it up (to bake on the paint), paint it, let it dry, and re-mount the tire. i guess i could use the spare in the mean time, but thats a lot of work, and i spend most of my time on my benz bug. (its gonna be my new DD until i can rip the struts out of my 74 super and throw a linkpin beam up under there, as well as extend the front end out 10 inches, and lower it, paint it, and chop it.)

if you are going to go to all of that trouble then why dont you just buy a flat windshield beetle?

BugMan114 Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:40 pm

cause its my first bug. i can't just throw it aside. and i really want to go rat-rod with it. i plan on grafting in a flat windshield, grafting in a rag-top section, and grafting in an oval rear window (or a split if i can get my hands on one  ). or maybe a fiberglass split re-pro like from www.glass-action.com. its sure a hell-u-va lot cheaper then an origional split section.

and besides where's the fun in buying another body.
