Hey all,
I've been noticing a few new splitties around town and thought it would be nice to get together. I've been spreading the word around town and think it would be cool to meet this Saturday evening at The Hook. Park in the lot at the end of 41st ave.

If you've got a pre '68type II come out and join us.

Meet at 5pm Dec 13, 2008. Spread the word.

Hey Jeremy,

I wish I had known about the meet yesterday, as I met a nice gal by the name of kelly. She had mentioned that she had met you and talked of starting a local club. I would've passed on the news. I usually try to have my bus home by dark but will make an exception.

SurfCityRacing Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:14 am

Oh yea, Kelly with the Velvet Green 11W. Her partner posts here, hopefully he'll see it.
This should be an ongoing thing. Let's let this kind of be an initial meeting and discuss how we should do it in the future.

unclespanky Sat Dec 13, 2008 6:14 pm

Jeremy,

Sorry I can't make it. I'll try to make the next one. Maybe we can have the next meet when the sun is out??

SurfCityRacing Sat Dec 13, 2008 7:41 pm

No worries. It was freaking too cold down there anyway!

unclespanky Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:27 am

Hey Jeremy,

perhaps another recruit?? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=332880

SurfCityRacing Tue Feb 17, 2009 12:45 pm

OK. The discussion has started up again. Sounds like a Sunday will work for everyone. How about we meet at The Hook parking lot? Is this Sunday too soon?

Rick Tue Feb 17, 2009 1:23 pm

Hi All. Sunday afternoon could work for me, but the weather may be a determining factor. Rain is supposed to be back all weekend. Normally that wouldn't be an issue for me, but my single cab is getting ready for paint and has leaky window seals, and my microbus might have it's brake system taken apart. So if the weather holds I can make it. Has a time been discussed? If not I'll throw out 2:30 pm. This would be fun everyone. If this one doesn't happen we'll try again!

Rick

Here is a little event you should try to make:
MPAS (Monterey Peninsula Aircooled Society) is hosting another scenic cruise from Monterey to the Talbott Winery in the beautiful Carmel Valley for a brunch/luncheon at the Talbott Tasting Room on Saturday, March 21, 2009.

Here are pics from the last MPAS Talbott Tour Cruise that was about 6 years ago (2003):

I will update when I receive more info.

Banzai KG Tue Feb 17, 2009 1:53 pm

And this was the past cruise that MPAS (Monterey Peninsula Aircooled Society) hosted...the Monterey 100: from February 8, 2009.

I can see if I can gather some Type 2 people here in the South Bay to make a drive down to Santa Cruz for your meets.

SCZ9-1-1 Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:57 pm

This Sunday would be cool with me about 3 PM.

Lucas Grams Wed Feb 18, 2009 8:53 am

The weather could be less than optimum, but I drive in less than optimum weather.

SurfCityRacing Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:09 am

Alrighty then. Lets meet at The Hook parking area at 3pm this Sunday Feb 22. Let's use it as a preliminary meeting to figure out some other cool things to do.
*Caravan to Bus fest would be sweet*
We could hook up with the Monterey guys and get a big posse.

Nor-Cal Bus Fest 4. Sunday May 3, 2009 at the Fairgrounds in Vallejo, CA

Rick Wed Feb 18, 2009 2:02 pm

nice! As stated above I can only make it if the weather is good. I think it would be sacrilege to drive my ford truck to a bus meet. Fingers crossed for good weather.

drpete Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:03 pm

Wish I could join you all. Sounds like a great get-together. I'm in a pinch to finish a project and can't get over the hill (from San Martin). Otherwise I'd be there in my '60. See you next time.

57streetrodbuggy Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:53 pm

 aaw man i cant bring the buggy its not ready yet ... well actually i could but i would have every cop in sc following me by the time i got there

unclespanky Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:45 am

I'm out. It's ugly out today.

werker Sun Feb 22, 2009 11:36 am

I would have attended by my 58 sc has it's ass in the air getting a new trans. The weather was fine yesterday for wrenching, but the rain put the dampner on progress for today. Keep this idea updated, I've been keeping a mental tally on all the vw's in town. Believe it or not, I haven't met any of you!
If BYOB is happening this year, we should caravan.

SurfCityRacing Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:37 pm

Yeah, it's kind of crappy weather. I'll show up today and see what happens. We'll schedule another meeting and hopefully it'll be sunny.

Tranny swap in the rain! Not too fun. That's the kind of stuff that would be cool to get the local buses together and help each other wrench on stuff. In the late 80's and all of the 90's when I was heavy into the bus scene, we would always have a group of VW guys around. We'd show up and have some cool-ones and wrench, share tools and parts. Let's get that going again!

We'll keep trying.
