We need to do a split bus run down Summit Road from end to end...lotsa good dirt, that road is! Hell, must be mad mud city manglers right now!
And Jeremy, I'll drop the good word on Graham John on FB right now. We all need a pint of Boulder Creek's finest! |

summit road over 17 to bear creek and down into boulder creek (for that beer) would be a blast. Before I had kids I used to bicycle all over the area and know lots of great little back roads. Some are rough, but seldom traveled. I am sensing a cruise in our near future :D
Should we try for 2:30 pm sunday at the hook parking lot? Not sure if it will be crowded but we should be able to find parking. I'm game for other locations/times as well if anyone has other ideas. |

I probably won't be buttoning up brakes tomorrow. However, the sun is back, daylight savings is in effect, so progress can happen after work again. BYOB-Red Barn swap has been confirmed, so we can definitely pull together a few meet ups before and then caravan to that. (?) Anybody have the rgb bearing puller?
 |

PM me if anyone is showing up tomorrow. I may not be able to make it due to a recently developing deal. I won't go into details at the moment, but if all goes as planned I'll have plenty to show off at a future meet.
No RGB puller here, but I did fab up some pieces of steel to work in conjunction with my two arm puller. Which bearing are you trying to pull? Now that Hazetguy is out of the area I don't know anyone who has all the right tools, though I have a few. |

I couldn't make it today. Let's reschedule for another day.
I bought these at Drew's used tools for $1. I think they're RGB bearing pullers, but I'm sure. |

oh dammit! I haven't been to drews in about 8 months, mostly because I didn't need anything specific and because I never found anything really good. Those look SWEET! Any numbers or names stamped on them? They sure look like a bearing puller. The only question is will they fit the RGBs. |

Holy Sh@t. A dollar? Beautiful. I'll have to swing by there. If not, we need to set up the first official wrench day!

| I hung out with BigGraham the other night at Boulder Brew. I think we should devote a work party to getting his bus on the road. It's pretty close. Maybe he can chime in and tell us what exactly he needs help with. The engine won't start for some electrical reason, and the carbs need to be dialed in. Hey BG tell us what your bus needs. |

Almost got finished up yesterday. Installed new flexi-lines to wrap up trans install, but the little lady isn't around to help me bleed them. That will be tomorrow evening. Someday very soon I will have this thing out of the mountains and back to my daily drive where it belongs. At lease I have confidence in the brake system now. Some of those lines were pretty dry and cracking. I have the old trans and rgb's in the back of the SC right now. When the crew at OldVolks swapped RGB's for me, they put the bad boxes on the bad trans. I was hoping to keep the big nuts and sell the old trans for whatever, but I now need to get the RGB's off of it. So, when I get the SC back on the road, I'll drive down to where ever you are Jeremy and we can give that puller a shot. Thanks for the offer of assistance!
BIG-G is a cool guy. I almost bought his old 914, but moved and ran out of space to put it. He also had some bay window deluxe trim that I almost picked up at BYOB like 3 years back. I'd be glad to help out.
This will all come together when the sun comes out. |

I'll be embarking on the same task as you. I have to replace all the tranny mounts in my 67, and the shift rod bushings while I'm there. The tranny sags so badly that the shift rod bottoms out in the chassis!
For everyone, I also got frustrated with solo brake bleeding. I have one of those cheap vacuum setups, but it leaks and doesn't work too well. Then it came to me. I have a vacuum veneer press in my shop. The vacuum pulls 21+ inches. So I made myself a nice fluid reservoir out of a masonry jar and hooked it up to my vacuum. This thing is amazing. If anyone wants to come bleed their brakes, or even flush out the entire system this is the way to do it. |

| those bearing pullers are correct but they are both missing a sleeve that slides down to the end once sliped over the inner race that prevents the puller from just sliding over the race and not working...pretty simple fix maybe some steel pipe cut about 2 inches long but the right diameter will have to be fiqured out. |

Hello Santa Cruz Type 2s!
Can't wait to convoy!
I'd be stoked with any help with my bus, thanks for all the support!
Jeremy, "She"{my 67} just needs to start and stop, lol!
Due to many misguided Mechanics, last time I tried to hotwire the old girl, ominous grey smoke came wafting from the 009, and as I didn't have an extinguisher handy, called it quits...
So basically I need to check/replace 009, coil,points/ starter? {no noise or luck using Idiot's Guide}electric fuel pump to see what's what, Jeremy has spares of some of these...
It's been sitting for years and has a badly bodged master cylinder arrangement, with reservoir through the floor, so I'd love to fit the 67 master I have...
Nothing too major, just need a wee bit of help from folk that know their Bus stuff!
I miss that 914, I live with the previous owner... |

Hi there! We've never met that I know of, but I also have a 67 with messed up brakes and I just completed the conversion to later bay window dual circuit master setup. It was pretty easy with all the right parts, or if you still have a good 67 only cylinder just go with that. I'd love to help sometime and can provide a few parts that I might have around, plus my super bleeder mentioned above. Sadly I'm a bit strapped for time now, but if you guys pick a day and go for it let me know and I'll see if I can make it. Also, who's going to Kelly Park? I'm going with my bus to swap. We should meet up! Maybe caravan? |

I am very impressed with the quality of people on the Samba. Soquel is only 35 minutes from my house. I usually surf Moss Landing it is 12 minutes. I am a servant at heart an enjoy helping others as well. My busy teaching days are Tuesday Thursdays other than that who knows I am flexible. Next Saturday might be a Pizza and Beverage Bus Party in my Garage. I keep it open. The Bleeder would be a great help as well. I have had bleeding problems in the past with other vehicles. Vacuum is the way to go! I do need some help! Also I have Large wiring Diagram for a 63 I assume they are very similar to a 67. Let me know if you need any assistance from me I have been known to "Getter done"!

That might just get people to make it! :D Let me know later in the week if it's a go and I can see if I can make it. Next Saturday may not work though since I've got some family plans. Even if I can't make it you're welcome to head over here if you need to use the bleeder. I solo bled my brakes to a point where they worked pretty well, then I made the vacuum bleeder which really made them work well. Good luck on the project! |
