Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a torque converter specifically designed for a 1985 Vanagon with the Subaru upgrade. My torque converter is damaged, and if I could get one that is better suited for the subaru engine that would be good!
Thanks,

you could get one from an earlier air cooled bus. I heard they were a little more stout and had a lower stall speed on them. It may not do you much good with a subie engine though. |

I have been quite please with the stock "H" torque converter in my Suby powered 91. The van takes off like a rocket and doesn't show any negative traits that I have noticed. Maybe an earlier vintage torque converter with a lower stall would improve the gas mileage a little, but I am happy enough with mine. At freeway speeds they are all going to slip about the same I would think.
Later AC and all WBX Vanagons had torque converters with a 2700 rpm stall while early AC Vanagons had 2200 stalls and early Bays 1700. |

When you say "later" vans do you mean 86-91? |
