Ha ha ha ah yeah... I just want to put a few more back on salty roads. Putting chains on just to get up a canyon is gettin old though, even though the bus would do fine, but the law is the law...

Am I that obvious? Damn!
No, really my comments are more for the sake of informing people rather than criticizing anyone for driving in the winter. I drove several of my previous buses up the local ski hill for years, it's probably been over ten years but what nature did in 30+ years was no comparison to what the salt did in several.
They've only recently started salting all the roads in this area and you'd be surprised how many people weren't aware or were told it wasn't salt and was some type of non-corrosive deicing agent aka magnesium chloride. It may not have been "as" corrosive as sodium chloride but regardless magnesium chloride is salt and is corrosive.
Recently it was announced that magnesium chloride was more expensive and that a good deal of money could be saved by using sodium chloride instead with no reference to why the more costly magnesium chloride was used in the first place.
I'm sure it varies from state to state but I'd rather replace windshields on a regular basis than have to watch the bottom side of my VWs disintegrate as I'm guessing would most of us who live in areas where it snows regularly.
I have plenty of good memories of driving up the mountain with regular street tires on my bus, dodging numerous cars who spun out and had to chain up, grinning ear to ear the whole way.
Peace. :) |

Ya, they've been salting the roads here as well, since 2003. The Cragar Kombi has salt all over it now. It doesn't snow for very much of the year here though.
I'll take it for a trip to the pressure washer when this cold snap is over.
The roads are ICY. Be careful driving out there!!!!!! |

True and true,
I washed my bus once all summer, now it seems like I spend more money washing the bus than on gas
I just love hitting the road before plows it is like driving on a cloud.... for those who know like riding on a powder day in the wasatch busses love it

| In Spokane they are cutting back on de-iceing becuase of budget cuts and are only de-iceing main roads so if I just stay on side roads I should have less worries. My dc will eventually be parked for winter but in the meentime im enjoying some early winter low riding in the snow and ice. |

| Well I looked and looked but I can't find the picture I'm looking for. I'm sure someone has it as I got it from thesamba. It's a winter prairie picture with 3 buses in the foreground.(all pearl white if memory serves) They are all nicely parked on an angle in front of a set of buildings. I used it for my desktop for a couple of winters but can't seem to find it anymore since the computer was reformatted. |
