| Had a tip on an early bus in Bullhead city last week and decided to check it out last Sat. The wife was in Denver helping our daughter get set up in her new apartment (she's in the Air Force and just got stationed at Buckley AFB) so I hitched up the trailor and headed out of Havasu early Sat am. 1st stop was a a coworkers house to help with a concrete patio pour, that done headed to my favorate junk yard in Needles Ca. Had one fat chick that was stripped out but had a 80's Chevy conversion van with a nice Z-bed in back. They wanted $50.00 for it and I took it. This yard lets you drive in and park next to auto you are stripping, real nice!. Got the bed out and was loading into the Dodge when something fell out from the Z-bed, a long sock with something in it, didnt look and loaded all into the Dodge. On to the next junk yard. Was at this one about 7 months ago and they had a nice late 80's diesel westy that they weren't sure if they were going to sell or part out. I wanted the rear eng hatch and front swivel buckets and mounts. The owner was out but his daughter was there and said she thought her dad and smashed it for scrap but to go out back and look. Sure enough it had been scrapped, what a waste. On to the bus in Bullhead, turns out to be a 78 junk kombi rusty wrecked shell. Time to head back home and stop at garage sales all the way back. Get to Golden Shores. Stopped at a garage sale ( I always put my magnetic buses wanted sign on my truck when driving out of town) and a guy sees it and says there is an old bus over on the next street so I head over to look for it. Turns out to be a 67 westy that I 1st saw in 1991 (verified by dated pictures I took back then). I had seen this westy various times with various owners and tried to buy for the last 15 years then it disapeared and now turns up. Knocked on trailor door and no one home so go next door to see about who owner is. Lady answers and says bus is her husbands. Long story short Westy is now in my driveway with me as owner. It has a story and will be for sale this weekend to help finance the highroof. Check the Samba sometime Sat. Needs work, drive it while restoring it, want $3500.00 firm for it. What fell out of the Z-bed??? Finally looked when I got home, Rugar 10-22 wood stock rifle!!! Been wanting one for Seligman. Never know what is out there !!!!! |
