I posted about this bus awhile back. And the pics I posted where pretty small. But Now I figured out how to get them bigger. And after looking at them more I noticed this has louvered side windows and I looked at some pics of 1967 westy's in the gallery and noticed they all had these style windows.

The only thing I can't figure out is it doesn't sem to have a pop top. Did some westy's not have them. It also looks to have a vent right behind the drivers side door that you can see in the picture what were they for? I can have the bus for $150 and told the owner I will take but will have to wait until the snow melts in the spring to pick it up. The bus is on it's side because they cut the engine and tranny out of it in one peice which is included. He did say someone came and bought alot of the interior out of it so i'm not sure whats left. Either way I can make some money off it right?

You haven't really given us much to work with there. Based on the rear hatch handle, it looks like a 1967. But apart from that, your photos don't tell us if it's a Westy. It does appear to have Westy-style jalousie windows but that doesn't make it one. Get some interior pics, particularly of the M-code plate.

BTW, not all SO-42s had pop-tops. They were optional. Regardless, as a parts Bus, it's worth $150. I hope you didn't plan to restore it.

Yes it's a '67 because it has reverse lights. It also has the elecrical outlet on the side of the bus. You can see it in the 5th picture. So between the electric outlet and the jalousie windows i'm pretty sure it's most likely a camper. And no I was planing to restore it just part it out and send he shell to the crusher. Are the non pop top westy's fairly rare? Oh andd I asked for interior pics but the owner said he already has to much time in the bus as it's 35 miles away from his house. I'm guessing he lives in town and the bus is at his farm or something. And since it's on it's side it's kinda hard to get in it to take pics.

Anyone else have any opionions as to whether or not it's a westfalia so-42?

Wait til Spring, then you can find out for sure.

Someone is trying to sell that with photos of it on its side? LOL! You can't get much lazier.

That outlet looks too low for the late '67's Westy location. As long as it's on its side, look for the icebox drain hole just behind the passenger wheel-well (if it even has a floor). Also peer into the cab and look for a curtain rail.

Wouldn't be worth the effort to pull it out of a jungle if you're trying to make anything on that. Strip it there and leave the hull. JMO.

Qoute{ "He did say someone came and bought alot of the interior out of it" }

I think this might be your answer...sounds like someone snatched up that westy interior.

BarryL I think the electrical outlet looks to be in the right spot for a '67. Other ones iv'e seen look like there about a foot back and down about 3 inches from the door, exactly where this one is.

BarryL Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:32 pm

You're right. With so much of the lower part gone I thought it was down on the rocker. If it's the og transaxle then it is one of the best there was. "O"-ring axle-tubes and the like.

It looks like mine, in a drunk twisted way. I don't know how "rare" hardtop so42's are, but I like the camping interior and hardtop look better personally.

That engine looks worth a restore too.

rustfree1967bug Thu Jan 08, 2009 9:57 am

Yeah I noticed the engine looks pretty complete and not in bad shape. The owner still hasn't replyed but I have his phone number so I might just call closer to spring time. Hopefuly I can get it out of there. I have no doubt that I'll be able to make my money back. Probably just from the engine and tranny.

I will be picking this bus up in a couple weekends from now. I will put any parts I need on my '66 and sell the rest and cut the rest up. Will post pics once it comes home.

I'm getting excited now. I'm going to pick the bus up around 5-5:30 this evening. I will post pics and more info as to if it's really a westy or not

rustfree1967bug Fri Aug 14, 2009 6:35 pm

Just got it home. And it is a factory so-42 camper. The m-code plate reads

21 2
425 A42 080 108
UN 2312 523907 709704

The inside is pretty trashed, the original wood paneling on the roof is broken into tons of peices. But all the curtain rods are there yet, the rear cabinet is there and a couple rear sests are there. And it's even a walk through. Is that rare on a hard top so-42? Sadly it's way too rough to restore so any thing I don't need will be sold. Pics coming in a few mins
