Should be soldered to the terminal like the original.
Yea I was thinking the same thing. This ignition housing wasn't original to my car. It came from Gabriel with that wiring as is. |

Last week Eichler was able to lay paint down on some body panels. Its nice to see some finished panels. Makes me feel like the end is in sight (yea right! Famous last words, huh).
He painted a lot of small stuff: Torsion hole plugs, shift rod plug, glove box, ash tray, license plate light housing, sunroof, and deck lid. The deck lid and sunroof still need cut & buffed.
Sandblasted subframe and added some strength to the mounting points.

With the quality of time being spent and the true dedication you are doing on your fasty, for sure, it will one of the best to come!

Stupid question of the day. What's the difference between an early and late deck lid on a Fasty? I remember you saying you're using a late. Edumacate me puleez. |

In the late fasty, the license plate cover is located in the middle portion of the decklid about 12 inches from the base; hence, the license plate was likewise relocated right on the lower portion thereof:
Whereas, in the early fasty, the license plate is located in the buttom most portion of the decklid and the license place is placed in the apron right above the bumper.

| How much did the side panels and seat upholstery cost you? If you don't mind I ask. |

Yes I am. The more I looked and compared the early to the late, the more I thought
that the late has a more proportionate license plate location. I'm sure some folks will
disagree with me and say I should leave it original, but to me its a relatively minor
change in cosmetics. Its not like I'm frenching the license plate into the deck lid... |

Thanks DONG. Too be honest, I've never really noticed that subtle difference at all. |

Can someone answer this??
Where these timing plugs standard on ALL Type 3s?
I have never seen one actually in place. All I ever see is an "oblong" hole that people have destroyed with a screwdriver by turning the engine over... |

Far as I know there were, but like you I have never seen one. Once the hole was trashed I imagine folks just gave up on using them. Bad design. I use a hard rubber cork-shaped plug I bought from Lowes. |

Yeah, all the time, Mark. Me too, These changes may appear to be obvious, but sometimes, they are kept away from our eyes. And we'll notice them sooner only. |

I think these timing plugs were use on all Type 3's. To secure the isolation of the hot air from the cool air is evident on this design.

While any sort of major progress is sometimes slow coming... I thought i'd share a few of my misc parts for the Fasty:
I just nabbed this from Bert3. Sweet "NOS 67 only-Fastback only" rear view mirror!
Custom one-off polished stainless generator strap done by Rick Eichler. Sweet!
Leather wrapped Formula steering wheel was an expensive Europe score, but I really wanted it. Originally it was going to go in my 67 bug project, but I think its better suited for the Fasty.
Bosch 010 rebuilt by Glenn with Pertronix electronic points & NOS cap. The EMPI oil pressure sender is being saved for another project as it would be barely visible in a Type 3 engine.

I have a set of front wheel bearings, but unsure about the inner bearing.
311 405 625 - I think these are the outers.
311 405 625B - Are these the larger 68-70 inners? |

625=inners

so the others must be outers. |
