I used to go to those poker runs all the time on motorcycles around '98-'99 and they were fun. We went to the April 2006 event with the cars we have now and it was still fun though rough in a car and I'm King bypass equipped. Maybe I was trying to go too fast......
The Barstow area is not one I know too well but in the few times I've been there we have never seen as nice camping spot like the one in your picture. How far is that from the main Poker Run staging area and circus?
I already have plans to be in Baja for April but the fall run is on my calendar. |

Normally the Runs are fairly easy......Family type runs, they want everybody to have a good time. Sawtooth is about 5 mintues away from...you were right...the "Circus".
Directions will be posted later.
Heres a link to the post from last time.

I looked at the write up from your last trip. Who is Eric that parked his car in the way of the camp riding kids? I owe that guy a beer.
Really it's the parents of those kids that needed a bat to the head. I too stay away from that kind of crowd. We have had some serious confrontations over the years.
Who has the nice white baja with the 9.50 BFG's in the front? That's what I want! I'm sick of the stiff 7.50x15 "traction treads" that I and many others use......even if they are shaved. |

That was 2 trips ago, when Vdubduner camped in the Madness behind the slash x cafe.near the Staging area. That trip is when I stumbled on Sawtooth canyon.Bobdog has been camping there for sometime. It is 5 miles or so from Downtown Poker run but definately worth the drive. There is a real smooth wash to the main road.Hopefully Sawtoothe won't be to overrun when we get there.I will most likely take friday off and head up early.Barstoe is always a good time. After the run I like to take my son to the old mines. |

The turn off for what we call Sawtooth is about 6 miles past Slash X....If your coming from the Lucerne Valley area its about 13 miles on the 247. Today when i was on Google Earth i was looking at the campsite and according to Google Earth its called.......in Blue letters..... Traer Aqua Canyon, maybe just the locals call it Sawtooth.
Campground coord. N34 40 13.14 W116 59 02.50
I also plan on going out early Friday.

| Im in and can come out early of Friday as well. Sound like a fun group and we always love going out to the Slash X for refreshments and chili fries. We did the poker run a few years back on our Quads and had lots of fun. This will be the first time in a Baja. We had always parked on the 15fwy/Stoddard Wells side of the area and rode over to the Slash X that way we stayed away from the Circus. |

I'm from Barstow originally and we've always called it Sawtooth.
Recently, however, I've noticed that rock climbers call the area "New Jack City".
Here is a link to a rock climbing description of the area. |
