Hello,
today i got the back nose for the 38
Oliver Herbolzheimer from oldenburg build it after draweings and pictures.
So one small problem less on our way to finish the car :D

| I have been lurking, reading this thread and am captivated by this find! I see that the car couldn't have ended up into better hands. The attention to detail seems to be amazing. Hats of to all that help getting this rare part of VW history back together. I look forward to seeing it sometime in the future! =D> |

very sorry if this first picture has been previously posted, i just thought it was really nice to see it in all its original glory, and because of this thread all versions of it through its history and now where it stands today.... BRAVO

It has been posted before but it doesn't matter. Just can't get enough of these pictures :D
I just noticed that someone must moved the only wiper that was left from the drivers side to the passenger side. Why would you do that? :?
I am sure Christian and everyone that is involved will get the car back to it's former glory! |

| I think in the older picture, the car's RHS wiper was missing... whereas in the newer pics the LHS wiper is missing. Judging by the photos the setup for two blades wasn't changed, just a question of different missing parts at different times. |

After 15 years out of the VW hobby, I recently got the “Bug” again and not only stumbled upon this site, but this thread as well. I’ve spent all day reading of this voyage from the beginning. It is truly a remarkable story.
I’ve been around VWs since my Dad brought back our first one from Europe in 1960 when I was five years old. My first car was, of course, a Beetle, a 1964. I’ve owned a number of Volkswagens over the years, the last being a 1971 Cabriolet restored to as new back in the early ‘90s.
The internet has brought his kind of tale to a whole new level. In the past it would have been just something to read about in passing in a magazine or book, but you can really get a feeling of being involved with the whole process from discovery to end here on TheSamba.com.
Christian and his entire team are to be commended for not only their excellent work, but for taking the time and making the effort to share this epic journey with the rest of us. Unfortunately, in this day and age of instant anonymous communication via the internet there will always be the naysayers, doubters and critics. Christian, pay them no mind. You have done and are doing a magnificent job and are to be commended. You and your team are a credit to the hobby. To all those who have contributed to solving the mysteries involving this car, I say well done. It could only be done this quickly by means of the internet and this type of forum.
I’m looking forward to planning a trip to come see VW38 #6 when it is complete if Christian is so kind as to display it at a show, convention, museum or even in private. Congratulations on a great journey so far. |

Just finished reading every page of this thread. Awesome find and it looks like it is in the best hands it could have found itself in! Great work so far Christian and gang and I look forward to seeing more pictures and maybe next year when I am in Germany I can come out that way and check it out.
For all the haters out there THEY ARE RESTORING THE CAR TO ITS FORMER GLORY. That's what a restoration IS! He isnt modding it or anything crazy like that. It is the very definition of RESTORATION!
Awesome pics by everyone also. How cool is it that the car seen in the photos that was completely forgotten about until just recently (and didnt even know which one it was!). |

Today my friend Jacek Krajewski from Warschau was here and brought me again an orginal part from a 1938 engine . He got the parts from some guys who found it in the ground with a metal detector.
The other part is the " normal " part for KDF engine from 1940 to middle of 1943 with the change from 900cc to 1100 cc.
The part for the 38 has the orginal number E60 from porsche on it !

| Amazing! Do you have any engine plans from 1938 showing this part number? I am asking because the E60 code was ofcourse used also on the earlier prototype 4-cylinder boxer engines that were tested on the V3, W30 and V303 series. Perhaps this part is older than 1938? |

since you are finding more and more original vw38 parts, i was stumbeling over the alu hubcaps in the gallery.
are these vw38 parts too? or just some hubcaps that accidently fit the vw rims?

It is indeed amazing with what kind of parts the car will be built- rebuilt or reconstructed..
The people who are involved with this is not only Christian and his father....It is a whole group of enthousiasts with one goal.
Rescue the vw38-06 car.
But the most amazing thing for me is that on the VW38 website the link with " suche teile " (searching parts) is empty :shock: ....- They are not even searching parts... :lol: |
