In German beetle forum there's a 1950 beetle classified. A guy noticed in the forum today, that the car has sharp corners of the decklid. I argued that the hump for licence plate light is missing and the inside looks like a normal one, but suggested that the decklid might have been changed to fit the roof. And I started counting and found to my surprise that there visibly 22 air slots. Not 21 as usual nor 24 as in the VW38 cars. But they don't fit well the shape of the split window, am I right? What do you think of it?

That car is a red herring. It's simply a late split that's been modified. Look at the drip rail on it. See how it extends about 75mm below the sharp corner? Here's what the real one looks like:

Very odd! With the exception of those decklid corners and the extra airslot, every other detail on this car is post war, so what happened there? Rust repair – not likely in that spot, even then why go to all the trouble? It really looks to me that someone has been trying to be a wise guy and done this on purpose, but what purpose?

It would be good to see that part of the body close-up. A picture of the rear with the decklid up would be enough.

Strange car,
Why is the fire wall cut open square behind the engine left and rightside?
I think, after cutting out rust it is more simple to make the roofcorner and decklid square then recreating the original . Maybe accident damadge repair?
Greetings. Peter.

The other part is the " normal " part for KDF engine from 1940 to middle of 1943 with the change from 900cc to 1100 cc.

The part for the 38 has the orginal number E60 from porsche on it !

Interesting car, I would like to know more about it also, namely what is the body number stamped on it?

However in the interest of preserving this historic thread on the VW38, I think this discussion should be migrated to its own thread.

You think that after all these years somebody by some strange miracle modified that particular car? John is rite tho that car should be in it`s own thread.

Hello guys,

thanks again for the nice support !
Our goal is the the car will be ready at the end of 2010.
The car can be seen at our museum and we will take it to Bad Camberg 2011 or it also will be some time at the PROTOTYP museum at Hamburg.
This will probably be the last update for 2009 - we will than stop working on the car because we will get our Rometsch Coupe back from painting. We will then start to put that car together.

Here you see the orginal front side panel fron the 38 cabrio from the museum and the side pannel we already made !

Bye Christian

Nice work Christian! Will you cut the sidepanel in parts and welded it again together?

kdfkid Thu Dec 10, 2009 2:08 pm

Hi Axel,
yes we will cut them after we finished the metal work in pieces and then we will weld them back together.
Each side panel will be made from 2 early split panels

kdfkid Thu Dec 10, 2009 11:46 pm

Hi,

yes the orginal 38 front side paneles are made from about 4 pieces and then welded together .
It is the front piece, the left piece and 2 pieces of the place were the screws are.

Hi Andi,

yes, the side panels of the "Hitler" Cabrio are made from different parts by hand. The sidepanel is not pressed in one part. They build maybe 6 or 8 parts
(that i donīt know exactly) and welded them together. Itīs all prototyping....

Axel

(today i will send you the pictures from the parts you ask for)
