Its a late 55 early 56 euro car. It has some 55 parts on it.
I am thinking L322 Silver Granite.
Johns KCW car is this color. Heres an example.

Lovely colour - you wouldn't go wrong with that.If I didn't have a strong suspicion mine was originally Inca red I'd go for one of the greys - they are beautiful. How late 55 is yours? Mine appears to be one of the very last built in 55 so I'm interested in other late 55s to try and work out the build date and body number - VW are unable to give me that info as their microfiche has disintegrated for my chassis no.
Cheers,

Mine appears to have been built in the month of July 1955 and completed early August.
I also picked up these today.

I hear ya on the $ for restoration. I'm trying not to add up the cost and just roll with it for now.
I plan on 6" narrowed beam up front, couple notch's out back and black n polished Fuch's 4.5 & 5.5. |

Hey Guys, :D
It's really nice to have this thread just for oval converts. I just got a hold of a January 1956 Covertible that needs lots of work. I ordered the birth certificate to confirm color and other information, but I do believe that the original color is Inca Red. I am going to need most of the side windows and some frames for it so here is my question: Until what year are the door, vent and quarter windows and frames the same for this car? Are there a lot differences between oval converts doors and 1958-1964 models ? Also, what type of grey is the original color for the headlight housing. I am really excited about the project and happy to know you guys are here. Thanks

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I am really excited to see this car come together. It appears to have some cool history with it. I have the birth certificate and it says it left the factory on August 10th 1955.
It went to a dealer in Paris france. It had the option of M 124 Yellow headlights fitted. Makes sence as in France you need yellow headlights.
I believe it spent a lot of its life over in Paris. Not sure how it made its way to the US.
It's an all numbers matching car. The 36hp motor is being rebuild. The car was fairly solid, not a lot of repair work needed. All original panels except rear fenders. I'll keep you all posted on it's re-birth. |

Nice car - cool colour too :)
I believe the window frames are the same from 53-64 but the logos on the glass changed during that time - I'm sure someone can confirm this.
Can you post some pictures of it please?

The yellow headlights are no longer with the car, However I plan to find some and complete the Euro look. If anyone has some for sale let me know. |

Was it yellow lenses or just yellow bulbs? I've never seen yellow lenses, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do exist. I have seen yellow bulbs though and also yellow bulb paint.

Here is a picture when I had just got the car. It will be a long term project for sure, but I am excited about it.
I will try to post more pictures as soon as I have a chance. I found several parts of the car that were not painted with that yellow, but instead have a metallic red, especially in the trunk, which makes me believe its original color is Inca red. Sorry about the quality of the picture.
Thanks Daves |

It could be Inca red, or maybe Coral red - I look forward to hearing what the birth certificate says.
