I have mixed and matched over the years and thought they were the same from 55-64 with the wind wings having subtle differences.

Yes the glass stamps are different but the frames?

the frames are all the same from 56-64, the glass is different, but only in that the sekurit logo got smaller in 58. not sure why chuck is limiting himself with in his ad as for ovals only, they span 56-64

He actually says from '53. Are 53-55 different from '56?, (the '53 maybe as they were the zwitter era and maybe alloy). My side window frame are aluminum in my feb 55 ??

AlteWagen Fri Jan 27, 2012 4:22 pm

I always thought aluminum was for 52 and earlier and chromed steel was 53 up. I thought the vent wings were also 53-55 but mainly in the swivel part not the frame, not positive though.

Hi, i have looked through the thread and cannot find the info i am looking for.

I am looking for details on semaphore boxes, can anyone supply me with dimensions and/or pictures of the boxes themselves and where they fit on the quarter panels?

Many thanks

The question I have is what is the estimated cost of having yours redone?

Re-chromed?

i was quoted 3 bennies for all 8 window frame pieces (rear frames, door frames, wind wing frame, and windwing lower pivot/glass piece)

any chrome guys in california reading this need to move out to florida, good lord!

man mike, it would be cheaper to mail it to me and get it done out here for those prices!

mine were close to 900 to re-chrome the 6 frames and polish the vent base frames (aluminum) i brought them to 4 chrome places in so cal and 3 in nor cal and got all similar estimates, however only superior chrome in san joe would guarantee their work. My vent frames had a lot of pitting....the first place I went was superior chrome and told them to F-off after their quote thinking it was crazy, after bringing to a bunch of other places and getting the same quote with no guarantee that they would come out perfect...I ended up going with them :)

Hi guys, need your help once more.

I am planning to do a full-repaint of my 54 cabrio, and I am considering a change in color (currently dolphin gray two tone).

Where can I see good pictures of cars in ALL the colors available in 1954?

Have checked the Technical page but that only shows sedan colors

Thanks in advance!

I would also look at early ghia colors as well as it seems many special order paints were from the ghia catalog

Took the 'vert out for a spin this morning. Ran out of petrol (this is not the best way to discover your fuel reserve tap does not work).

Did Volkswagen offer a red interior on any 1950s-era Beetle convertible? I've seen photos of them, but I don't know if that was just a liberty taken during restoration.

Photos of correct interior color combinations would be extremely appreciated.

THANKS!!

My car - 57 vert was originally Iris Blue with Red Interior. The seats had an iris blue color piping too - different from the piping you see on the OG blue seats that came with most iris blue verts, it was actually very close to iris blue piping on red seats. I haven't seen any other examples like this. no pictures of the interior in the car, but I have the OG door panels and crusty seat covers. I'll get a pic posted up soon.

Yes. My old 55 had a red interior. The interior was original (carpet replaced).

Thank you for the responses! That was extremely helpful.

Sorry for the follow up question. I've seen '50s era Beetles with red wheels. Was this a factory available option for the convertible?

THANKS :D
