I'm confused... Is this suppose to tell us something we don't know? Do I need to pay a UK historic tax on my baja?

"one vin fits all"

There is no difference in the vin number between standard and super beetle in 1971 & 1972

thats because 71 and 72 super beetles used the same prefix 111 or 112 as standard beetles.
in 73 they changed the 2nd # to a 3 to seperate the supers from the standards

Said mine is a Karmann, does that just mean it's a convertible?

EvanKon Tue Mar 16, 2010 3:48 am

Worked for mine....
Said it was a 1303 Beetle which it is. I don't think it determines Super or Std, but model type instead.

Isn't a 1303 really a Super Beetle? So if it tells you it's a 1303 Beetle, like my '73, then it's a Super Beetle, like my '73. :?:

Both 1302 and 1303 are superbeetles. The 1302 is the 71 and 72 FLAT SCREEN superbugs, and the 1303 is the CURVED SCREEN superbug from 1973 onwards.

The 71 and 72 have the same number series as the standard bugs
111,xxxx,xxx and 112,xxxx,xxx

1303s have 133,xxxx,xxx and 134,xxxx,xxxx where the standard bugs for those years are 113,xxxx,xxx and 114,xxxx,xxx ....the second digit changes from 1 (standard), to 3 (1303 superbug)

There's a complete list of chassis and matching engine numbers on my site at www.vw-resource.com/years.html

It doesn't tell me anything I don't already know.

I would suggest confirming all 3 VIN's match each other and the title.

I have seen many where that is not the case
