Is it possible to have too many accessories on a Beetle?

I was looking at a really nice Beetle yesterday, obviously the owner loved his pride and joy but it seemed to cluttered to me, it had

rear splats,
rear bumper reverse light,
D Plate on the back number plate,
wooden rack thing over the engine cover
roof racks
amber fog lights on the front
chrome driving light mounted near the windscreen
picnic radio
the toolkit that fits inside the spare wheel
chrome dress rings on the wheels

That's just the things I can remember, probably more accessories,

the car was very nice, but just seemed to over done.

It's like a lady with too much makeup on, a little bit is great, but overdone is well overdone.

I'm all for period accessories, but just need to keep it real so to speak

What is everyone else thoughts?

What period items do you have on your car?

Desh, it all depends of the kind of thing you want to make of your beetle. Here you met someone who likes the "dad goes on holiday" trend, that's all ;)

To keep up with your comparison, bugs are like women (well, not really, but...) : you have some without makeup, and those overkilled with makeup. And you have men loving makeup, and men loving women ;)

That's the sort of thing I mean,

I am sorry to whoever owns that car, it just looks too overdone,

it is a very nice Beetle, but has just been accessorised to death.

Not that I have a ton of accessories, just a few, but I finally took one off: the decoration that goes between the tail pipes. I thought it covered up the beauty of two chromed tail pipes.

The Beetle's greatest virtue was simple efficiency. There's a certain beauty to simplicity.

I agree with you about the the design. Perfect combo of form and function. Too many accessories is like the difference between wearing one necklace and wearing them Mr. T style.

However, if all VW's were the same I wouldn't want one and this would be a very lame hobby.

Some of my best friends have Cheese Graters (but I wouldn't want my son to own one.)

You should worry about your son's father. Cheese Graters are a choice. :wink:
