Just watched the original Love Bug with my 3 year old grandson....Now I remember why I loved that movie when I was a kid.........

The Herbie hatred on The Samba is played the hell out. I'm not as much a fan as when I was a kid, but I'll always hold the Love Bug in a higher regard of respect than somebody with a shitty attitude that jerks themself over whatever they may be into (i.e. slammed rustbucket, cubic dollar sandrail, trailer queen show car, etc. etc.).

I don't think people hate Herbie, they hate the people that own them that have an attitude.

Especially when it's a clapped out '70 hardtop that they painted a 53 on with puffy paint and then get all high and mighty and say "Check out my restored Herbie, it's just like in the movies!".

The old WALT Disney movies were OK.(The power of 40 horses!) :D The modern one(s) ? leave something to be desired.

I've got all of the (original) Herbie movies on DVD. Herbie (and Disney for that matter) proved that VW's do indeed have personalities. :D

Paying homage to Herbie is one thing, being obsessive about it with your own version of Herbie is quite another. :wink:

not to be anal and obsessive or anything, but the line I'm pretty sure (because I'm pretty sure you're talking about the 1st movie) was "the strength of 40 horses!" also, the color of the interior in those movies, it wasn't a VW color, was it...

In the first movie the car was Pearl Grey exterior with what appeared to be a dark Grey, battleship gray inside, like the car had been repainted without bothering to do the interior.

"Niice Herbie man!!" and
"Oh look!! Herbie!!!"
gets pretty annoying. :evil:

I don't hate herbie per se....but for shit's sake I drive a corvette yellow 4 eyed baja that looks nothing like herbie....and I get "aw look its herbie!" all the damned time and it got old quick. If my car even remotely looked like herbie, it wouldnt be so bad.

I think the movies were cool and I enjoy watching them. I can't stand people that paint their VW like Herbie. Kinda like the movie Smokie and the Bandit. It was an awesome movie, but I got sick of every asshole kid thinking his Black Trans Am was something special.

Yes a movie is something you watch, have a few laughs at and move on, if it is the center of your life it says more about you than the movie, or car featured in the movie etc...

That last one USED TO BE mine!!!! Got it free from the local VW dealership when I bought my wife's 08 New Beetle 'vert. Kept the engine, tranny, and Procar seats for my 69 'vert and gave the rest of the car to someone who wanted it.

Love the Herbie movies, but I don't want one.

I've seen "exhibit A"on the freeway before and thought it was kinda cool.
but i take it as kinda a joke,just someone having some fun in life and not taking things too serious.
I wouldnt run one,or wear the coat either,but I wouldnt run chromies or do a German look.
I guess whatever floats your boat. :D
