Announcing the 14th Annual Tulsa Show and Swap Meet, to be held September 19th, 2009. Weve moved back to the Marriott Hotel and made changes to our classes and events. The most notable, the Non-Judged class. This class was added for cars ranging from patina lookers to the 100 point show cars whose owners arent seeking a trophy.
Weve also added an engine raffle. (Instead of blowing one up!) Well start with a long block and add all of the accessories throughout the day. One lucky person will be taking home a zero-mile, 1600 DP engine, tuned and ready to install.
This year promises to be awsome and the club would like to invite anyone who is able to attend.

Joey, sounds like an improvement for sure. Glad to here someone is stepping up and trying to improve that show as its a good location for a lot of us in the area and nothing else is going on that weekend that I know of. I always like the non-judge category and happy you dropped the engine blow (those make me cringe). I plan on bein' there again. Later,

K

I know I'm not the only one glad to see this show heading back to the Marriott and back to its glory days status. Like Kevin said, Tulsa is a great location for a show in these parts. Its not to far of a drive for a lot of people in the surrounding states. I know there has been talk around our local circle but with a little effort this year we could break the participant record. I'm pretty confident we can at least top last years attendance

The non judge class finally had enough backing to get it added. I know I'm local but I have already given my word to enter everything that I have on the road come Sept. since this class is now available.

Everyone spread the word and lets work to pack the parking lot this year.

This is a real turn around...we will have a really good show this year. Lookin' at new ideas and with the engine build, hopefully some good vendors will be there. Alot of non-judged cars will come...Wow! back @ the big show again!

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CHURCH PARKING LOT AND CAMPING AREA...WAS A NICE TWO NIGHT EVENT AND A BETTER FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER. THE CHURCH SHOW WAS BETTER FOR TWO NIGHTS OF CAMPING...
THE SHOWS AT THE MARIOTT WERE COOL TOO...JUST ONE NIGHTERS THOUGH. I LIKED IT THERE WHEN ME, LARRY G AND DAVID B WERE THE ONLY THREE CAMPING OVERNIGHT ON THE LAWN IN NTHE SWAP AREA...
EVERYTHING CHANGES AND IS BEST TO JUST GO WITH THE TAOIST FLOW...I LOOK FORWARD TO A GREAT EVENT THIS YEAR TOO. =D> THE TULSA SHOW IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITES.

The Tulsa show hasnt ever been a "camping " show, although the Marriott does allow for people to camp.

The show known as the Tulsa VW show has moved many many times over the years but the Marriott location is good because of the close proximity to I-44 and US 75.... This makes it so much easier for guests from out of town to locate rather than be dead center in a congested urban setting..... Another strong reason for the move back is space, the Hotel has an abundance of available space, the parking area is at least 2 to 3 times larger and camping is available under the trees at the South end.. People wishing to stay at show sight can get rooms at a discounted rate at this very upscale establishment...

In the end the real reason for leaving the Marriott was that the Corvair club had beat us to making the date for the show...... For reasons which are beyond me I wondered why we are or were locked into "that" certain weekend.... Personally I don't like having a show on the tarmac in the blazing heat of summer and had suggested maybe wait several weeks and have a German Octoberfest type of show with the food and the beer but thats another story .......... I think anyone that cares to attend this years show will have a good time as the preparations are already being made to make this a memorable event...... Hope to see you there.

*Correction* At this time camping is only available on paved areas yet to be determined, this may change or be modified later ... When that happens you'll see notice here

"Camping" is allowed in the grassy area south of the swap spaces. The Marriott's position on camping is what they dont know doesnt hurt them. If people who decide to stay on site get rowdy or to loud, the priviledge to "camp" could be axed in the future.
That said, anyone who wants to get rowdy is more than welcome to camp at Dead End.

were going to try and make it as well...

Sounds like a good show plan. We'll be trying to make it for sure this year. Sorry to have missed it last year.

I too like the Non-judged class additon and the giving of an engine rather than blowing one up.

Camping will be sponsored by NEATO (neatoclub.org) and byLiMBO (limbobus.org).

I'll try to get down there, it's been a few years since I've been to a Tulsa show, last one was pretty fun though!

After our meeting on Satuday, I feel that we are moving in the right direction on the show and the site. I went out for a couple hours one evening and am happy to report that I was able to get $580.00 dollars donated, both in trophy sponsorships and parts towards the motor giveaway. I believe there is still more money out there, but the club membership is going to have to help make this show happen. Some people are going to have to either step back or get on board.

Everyone that has been involved with the club for the last 7-8 years is aware of the problems we have been experiencing. The #1 problem being lack of support for the show. After announcing the desire to move the show back to a location we could expand and grow at the support was overwhelmingly in favor. We knew there would be some hurdles,(Old school thinkers and lawn mower riders.), but with some NEW ideas we could get past anything.

Oldblue61 has been great as show chairman so far. He has secured donations, show fliers and made an effort to make this the best show possible. Unfortunately some members who have chosen not to be involved are now dissenting. This is a pivotal point in our show and our club as low attendance with both has taken its toll.

That said, we have tried to make changes that will bring the show back to its former level. We cant do it alone, though. We need your help. We appreciate all the help and feedback we have recieved here and in person so far. Lets make this the best year since '05!

YES! The Tulsa show is back! Time to get rid of the old thinking in that club and move on. 8)

over the past two years, i've had several people contact me thru The Samba and directly, asking why the Tulsa club chose a church for the location. It's clear to me that a lot of people just aren't comfortable there, for whatever reason. The church and its members have been gracious hosts, but we have to listen to the show attendees or risk losing them for good.

the show's attendance has been dropping and we have to reverse that. as I recall, we lost money on last year's show and that can't continue either.

I can't see any reason for not trying the Marriott again. It's easy to find, offers a real "host hotel" environment and will remind folks of how the show used to be.

It's kind of funny, but I was talking to the Corvair club members (yeah, the same folks who "stole" the Marriott years ago, which they don't recall) and they wanted to do a joint air-cooled show with us. I think any new and different ideas are worth talking about, so I am very glad to see the Tulsa club willing to try.

Count me in. I'm willing to try too.

Its definitely a year of change. So far the comments have been more than positive. Were going to discuss some more ideas this weekend at the meeting. Nice to see AssMan finally joined the samba.
