THE SHOWS AT THE MARIOTT WERE COOL TOO...JUST ONE NIGHTERS THOUGH. I LIKED IT THERE WHEN ME, LARRY G AND DAVID B WERE THE ONLY THREE CAMPING OVERNIGHT ON THE LAWN IN NTHE SWAP AREA...
EVERYTHING CHANGES AND IS BEST TO JUST GO WITH THE TAOIST FLOW...I LOOK FORWARD TO A GREAT EVENT THIS YEAR TOO. =D> THE TULSA SHOW IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITES.
firstly, back off the caps lock, OK?
thank you for bringing the Tulsa show back to the Marriott -- the location at the church was OK, but not as nice as the years it was at the Marriott...
I'll be there, just like I've been there every year for the last 5...
thanks again for stepping up and moving it back... |

You gonna be driving that new bus of yours?
I hope so. I just bought a shitload of parts for it this week..assembly time.
Man, if your bus makes it and kmondo and oldblue61 get off their respective asses and get their buses there we are gonna have quite a split window showing.
Not to mention if ragtop1962's bus could make it too.
Man, Tulsa show might end up looking like old school Eureka Springs with this kind of bus line up. |

The church venue has good and bad points.
The good:
Clean restrooms
Efficient refreshment facilities
Cordial hosts
The bad:
Asphalt showing/swapping area
Tight quarters
IMHO, the members who were miffed that the Corvair club booked the same weekend at the Marriot cut off their noses to spite their faces by refusing to share the site. People like cars, they love variety, and car people who are true car people appreciate different makes, models, and styles. If the Tulsa VW club decides to combine with the Corvair club for a combined makes show, then I say go for it. I'll be there to show and swap and hopefully make more friends/acquaintances outside of the VW circle.
If both clubs can efficiently organize who handles the swap stalls, the parking, and the other duties then there's a high probability of success. My only complaint from attending the past few Tulsa shows has been the lack of organization. |

Im glad you have decided to attend and swap at our show again. That said, this thread is not about whether or not we will have it here or there. Nor is it about combining with the Covair club. That was never an option. The Marriott does'nt allow two clubs at one time. Its about the changes that have been put in place to make our show a destination once again. After reading your comments in the other thread, ( http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=307365&highlight=tulsa), I decided I would become more involved. After becoming vp, others and myself came together to make the changes necessary to make this show fun again. Our newly appointed car show chairman has already secured several donations and has many more working. Chewbacca is going to run the Friday night dinner and entertain the crowd with his antics.

It would take something mighty big to keep me away from your show. I always enjoy myself and do very well at the swaps. IMHO, *IF* a scheduling conflict arises with another club I see no problems with a joint show for the reasons I stated above. I think it was silly for the old guard to get disgruntled about it and seek out a new location.
Even though the show is six months away, you're going to be very, very busy with gathering prizes and assigning duties up until the show starts. It's hectic work, and don't be surprised if/when you get people asking you the month before, "What can I do to help?" when they've not been around all year.
I am looking forward to September. 8) |

In talking to the car show committee chairman last week I asked about a major sponsor....... It's fine using all the local small businesses but what about trying to involve someone like Coca Cola, Q.T. or someone else with deep pockets... I thought of Budweiser but then there may be a conflict between serving alcohol in the Marriott parking lot..... I've got a few more ideas for sponsors which I'll talk to you about at todays meeting .......
Last week the first donation of parts for the engine give away came in, a pair of hand selected O.G. dual port heads, never cracked never welded completly rebuild, Thank You Robert @ Der German ....... This is a start so I passed out a two page list of parts needed and I'll be asking you to donate what you can..... It was suggested that building an engine complete on day of show might be unrealistic depending on weather conditions , Those folks have never been to an NHRA drag race where engines are built between races, but to keep it simple and make it eaiser for myself we will build it complete in advance and have it mounted on a stand with a fuel supply and a battery and be able to demonstrate as needed...... Would you buy a ticket for this if you could see it and hear it run????
My original idea was to build an engine to let people see the inner workings and am thinking of still building a short block just on my own ....... There are a very few people within the club with the abilty to build an engine and I thought the show is an excellent oppurtunity to pass this skill on or maybe spark an interest in this trade for a young person.....
As for split window busses I'll have my 64 single cab running... Its sitting in garage now with engine, trans, gas tank out, needs a brake job, few odds and ends, you'll see it as I plan to work off the back at the show, I'll see you there :D
