when you mount the shock make sure its 90 degrees to the lower trailing arm, if you cant get it to 90 get it as close as you can. on a light weight rail its not going to make a huge difference.

Fixed......

He's not going to get anywhere near 90* with the bolt on bandit arms, but he should be able to get another 10* or so over what he's got now which will make a large difference.

Some visualization graphs from another thread. Yes I know it's for A-arms, but the shock geometry carries over.

Well Yes Its fixed I could get more travel out of it but its just not worth it when all said and done I will see 10+"in front.
Thanks rlap for the heads up on the 90* or as close as I can get it looks like I will be able to get real close to that.
bdkw thanks for the graphs that helps me out.Now to finish the fronts shock mounts thinking about coming off the beam up and back to the top tube and not a clue yet to double shear on top

Nice rail.

Is Chenowth still in business or a way to get some of their parts? Where and how do I get in contact with them? There is no website and no phone number listed?

Thanks, for any info.

Bob

Well I set my front shocks so I had a 1/8inch between spring and beam on what will be full drop

What do you guys think so far

i`m really leaning towards the 1.6ltr nissan engine 300#loaded My oldest son been trying to talk me in to a small turbo

if your going to go with a Nissan engine get a 2.4 KA24DE. its a super popular engine among Nissan enthusiasts and there is a huge aftermarket. not to mention 150hp stock is a great starting point.

you can also get turbo charged JDM engine for super cheap. which start at around 200+HP

You're thinking of the Nissan SR20DE and SR20DET. The KA24DE is a USDM motor only and is an iron block (read: heavy!) and doesn't come turbo anywhere I can think of.

I'm about to begin the process of swapping an SR20DET into my 4LWD over this offseason (just as soon as I finish some small house projects). I do have an extra OBDI ECU and wiring harness for an SR20DE if you're interested in this swap. The motors make about 200whp/200wtq at 5-6psi of boost (SR20DET) in stock trim and about 150-160whp/130-140wtq for the SR20DE with a decent header and intake (given considering they'd be in a buggy). Motors can be bought for $300-400 (DE) and $800-900 (DET) from a Japanese engine supplier. The motor weighs about 290lbs complete with header in NA trim and 310lbs in turbo trim, so I might be able to get away with the torsion bars already on my buggy (not sure on dia, haven't measured yet). These motors, whether turbo or NA, will make good power from 2000-7800rpm and can be lugged at 900rpm in 5th in a 2700lb street car without bogging.

A wildcard is the SR20VET. Pretty easy to get 180whp out of these bone stock, it's NA (so it's lighter and less transmission abusing) and I've got a buddy selling one for $900 up in Sacramento area. It will, however, need to have a reprogrammed ECU and some other bits to run.

I've got an internally stock (well, other than cams) SR20DE in a street car that made 462whp @ 23psi of boost on almost all off the shelf parts and some C16, so there's definitely potential with these. I also run a Performance Touring car with makes 190whp NA with a custom header and some JWT C3 cams on an internally stock motor.

BTW, don't do the GA16DE. Not much power (100whp) and very little torque (80-90wtq) and has an iron block. I'm pretty sure it's heavier than 300lbs. Plus, you can't run near as much boost through them.

Thanks rlap. Your right the Nissan 2.4 ka24de is a really good engine from what I have read. Rockwood I really like the info on the Nissan sr20de I`m doing some research on that engine good hp to wt ratio. I will get back to you on the wiring harness.Rockwood is the sr20de aluminum engine?

Yep, all aluminum. I should be starting this project early next month, so I'll make sure to post up some pictures...

I would really have run the front tube on the shock hoop strait down to the beam with another beam clamp to attach it. With all your shock mount tubes lined up in one plane along the top chassis tube, your shock towers will want to flex in a lot.

Geometry looks decent.

Go with the turbo

charlespena Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:25 pm

Thanks for the reply bdkw1.What if I add a piese between the two towers.I was thinking about doing that anyway.and I`m also leaning towards a turbo motor.Ed

bdkw1 Tue Apr 14, 2009 7:13 pm

That would work also. Some of those chassis I have seen have tubes that angle down to the center of the cross brace tubes. Also acceptable.

And less visually obstructing.

hendersoned Mon Oct 26, 2009 7:06 pm

so did you select a motor? i'm interested in the SR20de swap, did you do it?

Rockwood Tue Oct 27, 2009 1:25 pm

I'm done mounting mine (SR20DET). Just need to make the intake piping, radiator piping and wiring. I really need to get off my ass and get some pictures up... :D

charlespena Tue Oct 27, 2009 4:49 pm

Hello just and up date.hendersoned I went with vw engine 1915 I drove one here with the pinto engine in it felt way to heavy.
