NOW that is what I was talking about!!! That is awsome kingkarman!! That is what our ghia dash will look like. Reminds me of our 56 oval.

I also like the look of a uncovered dash, If I had the time and patience and materials I would also do that to my dash but right now it has the holes all over its ok I use them lol

Not great pics, but you get the idea. I love the look of a clean, painted dash on a Ghia.

That's what I decided to do. The bodywork cost and paint was a bit more than a pad and faux wood
but if you have the means I highly recommend it 8)

I just install mine witch come from HOUSE OF GHIA:

Easy to install: two holes for the handle, 2 other one for at each end and it's ok! (no glue...)
except a smal gap at each end and along the windshield (0.5cm), hard to find better for that price!!!

I finally have the cockpit of my dreams (tacho, steering wheel, gauges and dash :D )

Looks way better than the faux wood dash which is my single least favorite cosmetic feature on any year Ghia. I like the early dash tops with no pad too - but this looks different perhaps?

I must say the Faux wood grain dash has grown on me over the years and I thinking of putting back on my KG and atleast it will cover the slot on the dash :D

I'm at the stage of needing to make a decision on the dash of my '69 too. Instead of welding up all the holes, I've thought of covering it in fiberglass and smoothing it out that way. I want to leave the top pad, but I'm not sure I want the lower pads as they might take away from that older look. Any thoughts?

The top pad does cover the upper holes. You would only need to cover the slots on the ends and those on the lower dash. The welds on either side of the speedometer were for studs on the trunk side so I could use the speedo/gas gauge from a 68 bug. I have not installed the driver's side kick pad yet, so you can see the difference.

I like the idea of the bug speedo with the built-in fuel gauge. I always though you'd still be able to see the upper holes, even with a dash pad on. You don't see from this angle, but can you if you're sitting in the car?

The cheaper/thinner pads do not cover the upper holes. That is why I went with the show quality one. If you go with the bug speedo, you'll need to change the gas sending unit to the later tube style. I shaved the gas door, and went with the older style tank, as mine was shot.

I am in the process of machining a custom wood dashtop. I drew up sections in autocad which match the sectional contours of the dash as you progress from the windsield to the dash face. Each of these wood sections will be made in a cnc machine then assembled (like a butcher block) with glue and pins. I'll post pics if I can figure out how to do that on this site...that is even harder than making cad drawings into components for me I'm afraid
