The weather is not cooperating with my Puck plans. Today I'm off to the salvage yard to see about some parts.

Anyone have a road trip, show, or event planned for this summer?

Taken last fall during Buskatour 11.

What kind of camera lens?

10.5 mm fisheye. The bus pulling the Puck has been restored since this was taken. The one in front of it is mine, a 67 Kombi.

Bought my puck in Feb 2011 and finally camped in it for the first time at the Featherly Park weekend a few weeks ago. It was great!

Nice setup. I spy the garbage bag!!

Good shot of the bug and Puck there folks55.
Did all of that gear come out of the Puck!!!

Update on my 71, I repacked the bearings, installed the 12" wheels and tires, and scrubbed the awning.
The bearings were all the same, except one had a washer between the nut and the bearing.
The tires have adequate clearance without shimming, the door side is 1/4 to 3/8 inches to the skirt rail, everywhere else is fine.

What is lighter a Puck made of aluminum or a Boler which is made of fiberglass? We are just starting to research small trailers and I understand the 13' Boler is about 1000lbs, is the Puck the same weight? We prefer the Puck for obvious reasons and will be pulling with our daily driver 4cyl car most of the time and sometimes the 67 bus. It's probably not advisable to pull with the 4cyl daily driver.

1000lbs is approx 450 kilos,1960/68 ish pucks are about 340 kilos going up to 450kilos by about 1985.after that they got heavier and heavier,i tow my 62 puck with a 602cc 2cv happily, apart from serious hills, earlier puck is best bet i would have said, early fibreglass was pretty heavy!

translated:
660lbs as delivered from the factory

Add at least 100-200 lbs on top of that for camping gear...just purely a guess since everybody packs differently.

You might want to check out Scamp trailers.

rebapuck Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:21 pm

The Puck is lighter, but the Boler/Scamp is bigger. Especially like that you can have a bed and a dinette.

Linda Grunthaner Fri Jun 15, 2012 6:21 pm

Thanks sounds like we will look for a Puck. Any one tow with a compact car 1.9 liter engines?

Looks like its missing all of the exterior red trim. You will have to replace all the window seals. Exterier fabric is ripped and most likely padding is missing from age. Doesnt look painted but painted over, so prepare to spend hundreds of hours taking paint off and polishing trim. Missing rear table, possibly missing front upper cabinet as I dont see it in any pictures. Screws around door and upper part of door into fiberglass top, what is that all about? Floor pealing up, wonder what it looks like underneath. Headliner is missing. If all that can be seen in pictures I cant imagine what else is wrong with it looking at it in person.

If your happy the way it looks now, than that would be great. If you wanted it to look at least half way decent expect to pay:

$300 - Upper canvas
$1300 - All seals and red trim
$200 - For Omni paint, more for other paint to repaint it
$150 - For a new set of tires
$1000 - $2000 - Reupholster all cushions and have headliner installed by professional
$500 - (?) - For every other little thing your going to run into once you start tearing into it.

Good deal? I guess if your happy with the way it looks now and dont plan on fixing it.

Crappy deal if you want it to look half way decent and plan on fixing it up yourself. Plan on it adding up quick and soon getting close to the $7000 - $8000 range.

$1,500 would have been a good deal, as it appears mostly complete and a good foundation to start with.
