hey im new to Volkswagen's and just recently got a free 1972 beetle. It has 36,000 original miles all brand new interior, MSD electronic distributor, Mallory ignition etc. He gave me boxes of parts to.

not sure if its a super or not. he said its not because of the front wind shield. but, you cant always go by that.

and sorry its not for sell. :D

Looks great, you're lucky. See http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=189893 to differentiate beetles from SBs. SBs 1973 and newer had curved windshields, so that doesn't ID a 72, check that link, easy to tell, and both are the same from like doors rearward.

I vote that its a standard. The apron looks like a standard to me.

Is the spare tire upright or horizontal??

Bwah hah hah, I am the IT Nazi, I can do as I please. But we just lock down Games, Downloads, and Adult Material. Beyond that it's the Managers' Job to enforce the rules. We wont do it.

yes it is a standard 4spd. it was upright but, he bought taller new tires, so the spare wont fit vertically so it is in there horizontally.

The only thing wrong with this beetle is the turn signal switch. it had one but, he took it out to replace it because the left blinker wasn't blinking.

This car is flawless mostly every VW person I run into say its the cleanest stock looking bug they've seen.

lucky you. i just got a 1972 super beetle myself, but i paid $150 for it and this is what i got:

dont worry though. theres another parts car and alot of parts to justify the price. still, you lucked out. enjoy.

Get a standard size for the spare. It would free A LOT of space in the trunk. It is just for emergencies anyway.

I don't put anything in there anyways. all the tires are the same size. I do want to get some smaller tires on there eventually.

If the tire sits (or is supposed to sit) upright then it is a standard, not a super.

Most people prefer the standards, but a lot of people enjoy the supers asweel. I love my '71. Though sometimes I think she hates me.
