little BUGer Wed Mar 11, 2009 12:46 pm

Crippler Wed Mar 11, 2009 1:15 pm

long story short not really: I was at my uncles house picking out tools that where my grandpas before he past. My uncle had the bug in the driveway (he was charging the battery) and his wife said to my uncle "you should sign the bug over" he was said "I don't know, wanna take it for a test drive?". He seen my truck and what I have done to it and was thinking I would take good care of the bug. when I left he told me to check how much insurance would be on it for me. I called him later after I got the quote and he told me to get insurance on it and come over. :D So I went over there a couple days after I put insurance on it and we talked and he said that he was proud of me for being the only one out of my brothers and sisters to Graduate high school and how far I've come. We then later took a trip to the DMV and he paid to swap the title in my name also. after that when we got back to his house he started giving me books and boxes of brand new parts for this thing. Then we shuck and hand and I drove away in it.

The End. :D

He used to have a really nice bus but, he sold it overseas.

little BUGer Wed Mar 11, 2009 1:52 pm

speaking of it, the Title just came in the mail! :D

The fact that the dash has a block off instead of a fan switch, and what the front apron looks like in the pic, my vote is standard.

And while I am a little jealous, I can't complain. Check out my free 71 Ghia in the link below.

A free Bug usually looks like this.

Not like this

I hope you take good care of it.

Looks like a standard to me..

Don't drive in the rain just yet

jbbrown Wed Mar 11, 2009 4:10 pm

That is Standard Beetle. The front apron is a dead give away. Although I currently own a 73 super Beetle I would be all over that bug. In fact I would have happily offered up some cabbage for the priviledge of ownership.

Nice score Bro! :bug_yellow:

It is very simple to tell a standard from a super. The super has coil springs and struts , no shocks.{coil over shocks do not qualify}. A standard 2 has torsion tubes running across the front end from side to side and has shocks. From the front edge of the doors back a super is the same as a standard.

Super

Standard

it is a standard, I fixed the wiper motor so there are wiper blades on it now.

germanclassicg Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:40 pm

Be prepaired to get dirty. Most of the fun part is fixing it yourself, and the miserable part is waiting for parts.

little BUGer Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:52 pm

where can I get some adjusters at?

So the bus's beam is the same as mine?

Crippler Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:18 pm

thats cool that the bug is staying in the family. i dont think we've seen nearly enough pics though....

little BUGer Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:47 pm

decobugma07 Thu Mar 12, 2009 6:30 am

Mine was a freebe just like your bugger.
My aunt back in 1968 got her bug (brand new) from Berlin when she was in the military as a nurse, then she moved back to Dominican Republic where she got married and had three kids and gave the bug to the older one for college. He moved to Hawaii and took the bug with him, after a wile he moved to California with the bug. He got married and kids and didn't have time for the bug and needed a bigger car, so he gave it to me (I was in Miami Beach, FL at the time). We Antraked the bug to Miami and I moved to Boston (now).

He is part of the family. I am kepping it in top contition for my son.

Cheers

NIce bug, so, are you gonna put some nice wheels on it, or change it up a little? Or just leave it as is?

decobugma07 Thu Mar 12, 2009 6:46 am

It has been a lot of changes since I moved to Boston. Between fighting the rust from the street salt in winter to making it safer to todays standars. The list is about three pages long of all inprovements. I'll post some pict in my gallery today.

little BUGer Thu Mar 12, 2009 8:44 am

yup I'm from Portland.

I think I'm gonna keep the stock look maybe get some smaller tires and lower it and run new exhaust to.[/quote]
