Hey all,
Today I spent some quality time with the bus getting her ready for spring. Rotated the tires, adjusted the valves, adjusted the idle, check the timing, set the A/F ratio and installed my new header. Here are some pictures;

Enjoy! |

Now that looks sweet Jerome.
I was debating on how to spend my wife approved "bus money" and decided on a set of dual 40 spanish webers. The headers are going to have to wait a bit.
How does it sound?
Looks like you got yours ceramic coated as well?

Hey all,
Yes, it is a Tangerine Header, made by Chris and it sounds amazing! At idle it has a nice rumble but not annoying and at WOT it rrrrrrrips! The sound is never annoying, actually pleasant. Hey Craig! Those Webers will be nice on your bus! Yes, I got it ceramic coated.
No word on power or smoothness yet. Seat of the pants feel is that I gained some serious torque but I will only be sure once I dyno her this summer. Now I need to do some more playing with the A?F ratio because I am moving more air through the engine now so it might be off. |

jerome,
can't wait to see what your germansupply engine will make on the dyno with that final piece of the combo in place. given that the dyno run will be on the same machine as when it was dyno'd before it should be quite revealing. i'll also be curious what happens to your CHT.
i would also think about replacing or repairing the piece of sheet metal directly behind/below the fan. it has a slit in it and it looks to me like one of the header pipes is very close to the slit. this will heat the fan intake air slightly and could make a difference in head temperatures.
in this photo:
i see you need one of these:
i'm pretty sure we made that bracket you have in it's place, when we installed the previous exhaust. the correct ones were not available at the time. it's fine, but it might be nice to have the correct one. |

| That is a really nice exhaust. I just bought a systema two months ago and it sounds good but the tail pipe hits the bumper bracket and I had to fix the rattle with a hose clamp. Not so nice. Lot's of Ontario plates in our area this week! Lot's of them that ask about my bus also. |

I agree, I took her out on the highway and was crusing at 80 mph...never went above 345 however it was slightly cool out. High summer will tell...

Thanks for the tip! I repaired it this afternoon. I thought that slit was normal...

The one we made it ok but it is a tight fit...bit short. I will get one from you next time I come into the city. |

| Hi Jerome, how is your header holding up? Did you get it ceramic coated from Tangerine or someone else? |

Hi,
It is doing fine so far but last yeay was an off year for me with the bus...no long trips. This season I have a couple planned so we will see. I started the bus the other day and heard the telltale sound of an exhaust leak...likely at the head...so I bought some new exhaust gasket from German-supply and will get them installed once it is warmer out (-15 this morning...Celsius). At that time I should be able to inspect the complete system however as far as I can see there are no issues. The heat exchangers were also coated and they are showing signs of rust so I am a bit worried. I had everything done here locally in Ontario. |

Looks great, quick question. What are these pipe things at the blue arrows? I have them on mine and they don't seem to do anything? I guess I can just take them off, right?

They are waste air dumps for the heater boxes. They originally attached to the flapper valves by way of corrugated hoses. The consensus seems to be that they kept the fuel tank cooler so there was less evaporation of raw gas from the tank. They may keep the engine slightly cooler and should keep the starter cooler as well.
You probably will experience few if any problems if you remove yours. |

Mine aren't attached to anything with any hose? So, should I put some new hoses on them back to where they were?(the flapper valve, is that the heater control box?)
Or should I just remove them all together? |

I kind of like having them there, but they aren't all that necessary. I would think that you would be less apt to see a hot start problem with every piece there, but I don't think anyone could say for sure. |

I have them to help keep as much heat as possible out of anywhere near the engine. |
