Working on the fiberglass poptop.
The closeup shows how the fiberglass had deteriorated. One shows the fresh resin being squeegied on to fill the voids. And one on second sand and prime.

Just got the front half painted. It was so cold up here it was taking a whole day for the primer to dry.
Anyhow here are some pics of the front half after paint....using acrylic lacquer or is it enamel..........brain dead! Sorry.

Thank you, but it is my body man's handy work. He is an old time hot rod builder and he can work anything......he amazes me constantly!

He said the resin he used was Bondo/3M waxed resin, as he block sanded and only need one coat as it was mainly to rebond the old fibers and fill pits and holes..............if you need more than one coat use unwaxed, is what he suggested.

Oh yeah and he squeegied it on, not brushed.

Right corner had been backed into a tree

Found a wet rag stuffed in the dogleg from a previous repair......great

Nose was tweaked by a spare tire carrier.

Custom battery tray........nice!

Thank you, and yes all the way down to the last thing I can think of is going to be done right..............I have plans to drive it to Costa Rica next year, after I break in the 1776.

You're doing a good job, keep it up. The bodywork is great, I wish I was that good at it.

I wish I was also.........my friend is doing it for me, as well as the paint.
He had retired from doing custom body work and paint, but found himself in the position of needing to work again, so he has tackled two VW's so far for me. He is great and a wealth of knowledge. I got really lucky meeting him.
Plus we do a bit of bartering for work which is awesome! :D

Went over today to look at how my Westy was coming along, and got a lesson in block sanding.............why to find the minor imperfections....wow was I amazed, and later tired and hot...
A couple of photos I took as we got started.

This is where Dusty showed me about block sanding. You can see the dark areas, which are actually low spots. I could not tell before we block sanded.
