O damn, that sucks :? , I was right before an exit into town when the engine quit, so I had enough momentum to coast onto the the exit ramp and pull off to the side, but that receipt picture is from the 8th, the car died pulling into the gas station that time  ..and my gas guage is pretty accuarate, maybe a little off, showing that there's more in the tank when there really isnt.
As for the fuel filter, we had this discussion..it's a common misconception that the fuel filter will burst..If checked regularly, then I have nothing to worry about. It's when the filter is neglected that you can have a fire hazard. |

| hey did you get your brakes figured out yet? they might just need to be re-adjusted. I thought I needed to bleed mine some more because they were acting just like what you were describing. anyway, I think they were just out of adjustment. hell of a lot more solid now. |

When the shoes have to travel further to meet the drum (out of adjustment), of course, it takes more fluid pumped to the wheel cylinders to get them there. So, it can make them feel soft and even require pumping. Wish the things were self-adjusting

Just for fun, I wanted to post up some pics of the things that I do at work..
I did 2 sets of single port heads today, I love cleaning them up because its bringing potential into a thing that was once sought after as worthless, and not it will eventually go back into a car that needs them. Sorry for the poor pic quality, it took them with my cell phone, but I'll probably post up more pictures of what I do here in the next few weeks..
Also on that note, I was reading the very beginning of my thread, all I gotta say is I was more optomistic than what I was worth. But that brings me to this. At the beginning of my thread, it was a few weeks off from my birthday, I was saying things like I was going to have the car repainted by May..Obviously that wasn't the case at all..So now I'm a little over 2 weeks away from my birthday and I'm expecting cash from the family..With an estimate, it looks like I'll have enough to get all of the body seals and new suspension bushings..along with maybe a new interior. I'm letting optimisim get the better of me yet again..but this time I know what I'm getting into and working at an Aircooled VW shop, it makes life alot easier. The plan is, once I have everything all ordered up, I'm going to go ahead and take the body off the chassis and redo the pan and the suspension. While all of that is going down, I'll go ahead and do some of the minor things to the engine, with painting the manifold and getting the correct distributor. Then I'll move onto body and paint, the car is solid as a rock and only has surface rust, So I don't have to be concerned about patching anything.
So bottom line, it looks like in the next few months, I'll be comencing the restoration of my bug and hope to have it all nice and pretty for show season. If all goes well it'd be nice to have all of this done by early summer. But with the way things have been going, and the snails pace that I work at, it may not be until mid summer..
Thought I would enlighten everyone..I've kept it under wraps because I didn't want to talk up something that wasn't going to happen like how I had in the past...But I'm pretty confident that this year, it's going to happend and I can give the bug the proper restoration that it needs.
Sorry for the long winded post guys..but there you have it..that's the plan. |

| it looks like you are coming along nicely!! You should talk somethings up because if you don't it might never get done. Just look at the classifieds and you can see how many people start on these things and never finish them and end up putting them up for sale. After all is said and done you will know exactly what is done to your car and also what not to do the next time around. Keep on doing what you are doing and one day it will all be finished and when you drive around you will have this great sense of pride, especially when someone asks you where did you buy that awesome bug...and you say I built it!! This is one of the greatest feelings you can ever have...it proves you have determination and self-worth. And someday some kid might come to you with questions and you can help them out and set them out on the right path...congratulations on how far you have come. In two weeks, with fingers crossed, I will have my engine complete and I will have that great feeling again!! Thanks all you samba people out there :) Sorry for the sappy post  |

| :D I don't mind sappy..mine was a little bit too. But I gotta coordinate everything just right so that it all falls into place and I'm not stuck staring at a primered car because I don't have enough for paint, or things like that. Till then I'm enjoying driving it everywhere..I put about 250 miles on it these past 4 days, and it runs amazing!..I also calculated it out and I'm getting 34.3 MPG! |
