| Good news! Today I got a call from an Allstate agent in regards to the car crash that I got into in November, and they're sending me $200 since I was the passenger, and its not for anything specific....I sense the brakes being done really really soon! |

Ok so something new came up today with the discussion of me getting the money..So my parents want me to go ahead buy the Carburetor instead of doing the breaks, they said that they had that covered, and I want to get the H30/31 PICT for it...There's only 1 highway that I'll ever really be traveling on while I still live around here and figure I'll just upgrade carbs once I got off to collage...but for the time being the 30/31 will work out fine..I have a 009 mechanical distributor and I know I don't have change anything to make it work with the 30/31...But to be honest, I don't know how to set the timing..and don't understand any of the terminology   But it ran before..So once I get the new carb on there, I'll probably need advice on setting the timing
...And I've heard this rumor...if you run 110LL Octane AVGAS, it will help clean out the engine and burn off any water..is this true?? |

| That's my plan too! I hope to have time and money over the summer to restore it, but for right now it will be used to get me to and from school. |

no it has to be running
... if your lucky.. you said it ran before.. perhaps once you put the carb. on your timing may be already set... just be sure to check it with a timing gun |

| I'll be sure to do that..Now back when my dad had it as his daily driver, it ran and drove just fine...After sitting, 2 years ago, with that same carb that my dad had on it, I got to run fine aside from the funny idling because of a vacuum leak...so I bought and rebuilt another H30/31, and the car refused to run for more than a second! I had to keep pumping the gas pedal rapidly to keep it from dying and if I tried to hold it down, it would kill it, if I tried to let it idle, it would die...The carb had incorrect jets, and had alot of calcium build up in it...So I sold it..but I'm worried this new one will do the same, but I'm buying brand new from Jbugs.com... |

I know you're probably on pretty limited funds, but I found this DVD to be really helpful in getting a handle on the mechanical basics: http://www.bugmevideo.com/. Check out volume 1. I got it a while ago, and I thought it was well worth the money. It's good if you're the type of person who likes to do the monkey see/monkey do thing.
I did that with the Cal Pacific videos when I torn my bug down, and it made it so easy. Just play/pause/mimic/play/pause/mimic. Great way to learn, and hard to screw up  |
