Ok..good to know that someone else has a had a goof up like that..it makes sense I guess, I kept trying to turn it, and it would turn, but not by alot and it took alot of force...And It never became any looser....So tomorrow I'll give it another shot...thanks for the reply, or I would have ended up breaking something...Also today had a buddy of mine come over, he likes to think he's good with cars (Anyone else have a friend like this?) And he cut the F***ing speedometer cable and all I got out of him was "Well shit, I'm sure you can find another one some where else".....

You should have responded to him with..

"Well shit, I'm sure you can find me another one some where else"

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:00 pm

I just about cut his head off with the pair of wire cutters he was holding..And I just bought a new speedometer too! But how he got my attention with it was "Hey buddy, I found some weird little metal thing hanging out of your wheel, so I cut it off for ya to save you the trouble..."

Don't let him touch your car anymore

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:29 pm

I won't...just off topic really quick, my cousin sold him a Ford Escort station wagon, and today he calls me and says "Hey I straight piped that bastard and raised it 6 inches!"....A station wagon, he told me it was a rally car...he also told me for $50 he could give my bug 100 more Horsepower say it as though its had it this whole time and he knows how to put it to use...

again... don't let him touch your car

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:51 pm

I won't  ...So this week I'm ordering a H30/31 PICt carby, accelerator cable, barrel nut to hold the accelerator cable, and new speedometer cable..

r2andkachaa Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:53 pm

Haha that's great... We all know people like that...you seem pretty smart trust yourself.... Use the force... Eventually you end up amazingly crazy and you know these things inside and out... As for me I'm with you... Still learnin but gettin there

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:57 pm

Its good to have someone to bounce notes off of thats just getting into this too! I mean I spent over an hour pondering why the axle clamp wasn't coming of... ..just to find out that its reverse threaded..again.. ...But you're right, learning is part of it and soon these things will be easy to work on :D

Fattie Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:59 pm

.. next time dont stare for an hour.. come ask us silly... after you have tried "search"

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:02 pm

Yeah I searched it, and didn't find anything on reverse thread, In fact I didn't have a clue that any nuts were reverse threaded..So I cranked on it for a bit...got it to do a full revolution   :? ...and figured since no progress was being made, I'd ask you guys...but that wasn't till I honestly thought something was wrong..

Fattie Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:05 pm

Ya ya I bought my first beetle in august of 2007.... It was a 73 super.... I then got a 68 standard and removed the engine and took it apart... Learned some wiring and all kinds of stuff... Its like anything.... The first time its daunting and then its second nature... I like to learn with other people it allows us to laugh off our mistakes... :D :D

this may come in handy for you......

http://www.vw-resource.com/mihov_index.html

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:10 pm

That vw-resource site will help out a ton! It has categories for everything! And working with friends is always fun (unless you have the one that doesn't know what he's talking about) But me and another buddy both help work on each others cars, he has a 1972 El Camino that he want's up and running but summer too, so its fun working with him because we both understand what's going on, and we can both laugh at things like this.

Fattie Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:13 pm

r2andkachaa Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:15 pm

PatterBon Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:17 pm

Will do, I'll be posting brake work tomorrow, or Sunday, I have a 4 hour flight tomorrow. But It's the last of the 4 to be done and the other one's were in horrible condition, So you guys can see the before and afters on it :D ..It's been fun seeing the Golden Rake come together, I remember seeing the thread, it caught my eye because it was the only other '73 standard post that I had seen and that thing is Badass!
