a little superglue, a round of duct tape and a shot of cactus juice then back to work. never got tetanus from a baja, just a empty hole where my wallet use to be. daddy always said, " if you dont bleed a little, it wont come out right"

Prepping replacement pan for welding

Prepping pan for welding

Had to make our own grounding post

My buddy Steve welding my floor pan

Steve showing me how to weld

Kinda cool watching the welds from above. Guess I should have wire wheeled that area before hand......

My first attempt at welding on my Bug

Well I haven't done any work on my rag top so I haven't posted. I just bought a '66 today that has rear end damage and a clean title with current reg so it looks like I'm going to build it instead of my '62 with no paperwork. I already cut the rear apron off and plan to use parts off the '62.

The '66 has a narrowed 2in ball joint beam with adjusters that I need to sell or trade for a stock beam. It also has 1600 single port motor with a freeway flyer trans which I might sell to use the lower geared trans out of the 1200 powered '62.

Time to call in sick to work for a few days... and get that thing running....

Bearkiller Tue Oct 27, 2009 12:11 am

Well we changed gears again and picked up a rolling '70 Bug with a title to use the pan for the '62.

David and Steve remove the rear half of the body

Steve removes the doors and front half of body

Jerry surveys the bare pan

David and Steve setup poles to slide the '62 body over to the '70 chassis

Body swap done

Hmmmm...rear body mount has to go!

Going....

Slight adjustment

That's better!

Body bolted to pan

'62 flywheel toast! The magic tool makes removing gland nut easy!

Torque gland nut to 45# which multiplies to about 400#

Flywheel and clutch taken from '66 Bug

Steve moves engine over to '62/'70

Engine in position

Just a little shove

Almost there

It's in!

Now to the wiring. We went with a Dune Buggy Wiring Harness from Chirco

Main wires run back to front

Steve really knows his wiring!

Hope to get it running this weekend!

Long weekend, got a lot done.

Bug completely wired, with new harness.

Ran new fuel line, because the hard line is blocked somewhere.

Started the Motor, runs great.

Swapped wheels and tires....

......................................

Some where I think Kenny has photos and video's.....

Next weekends plan....

Bleed brakes, patch the rust spots... put in seat....Test drive...

Bearkiller Sun Nov 01, 2009 8:39 pm

I'm downloading the video as I type. Here are a few pics from today.

Steve finished the wiring

Pulled the drums to switch from 4 lug to 5 and found brakes already done!

Front and rear views

Next weekend bleed the brakes install seats and go for a ride! :D

Bearkiller Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:47 pm

Here's the video. It's boring I know but hey it runs! That's Steve working the throttle. He's my hero. Since I broke my hip he's been doing all the work on the car. =D>

Nice job. Its funny you think its only a bug how hard car they be to build! Then you get into it and you go damn there are a lot of little things to do on these damn cars. I pick up my baja this friday cant wait. Comes with a lot of new parts. I still wish I had my sandrail too. Oh well. Do you and your buddy take your bajas off roading? And where? Im in Pittsburg Ca about and hour and 20 mins from you. Have to get mine together and do a meet somewhere.
