Some sad news everyone. :( Some of you may know if not have seen Orange Empire Bus Company member and OCTO volunteer Greg Contreras as you’ve entered our shows. He was in a serious car accident on Thursday, April 2, 2009. While driving his single cab to work, he was hit head on by an oncoming vehicle that turned directly in front of him. He’s suffering from multiple breaks in both legs, a cracked skull, brain swelling, and several lacerations to his face. The doctors have placed him in a medically induced coma to give the brain some time to heal. They have also placed a stint in his head to help relieve the swelling. He is stabilized but still in ICU. Greg and his wife Carrie are expecting their first child in a few months. Please keep them and their family in your thoughts. If you know Greg, he’s at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, CA. ICU room 2201 if anyone wants to visit. Visiting Hours are around the clock, even hours. The family is in the waiting room to the left of the ICU. Some have already offered donations to help cover some immediate costs. If you would like to make a donation please contact Corona Ryan at coronaryan@oebc.net and (951) 272-1074 or myself at erik@octo.org and (714) 374-7506. We all wish Greg a speedy recovery.

I hate when I get these kinds of emails
When I first met Greg at one of our Octo meets, I thought what a pesky, live wire, to much energy. After 2 shows working with Greg I told my partner Paul Hansen, I am steeling this kid from Octo for my toy show. He has the perfect personality to stand in the door way with my wife to deal with 500 people all trying to get in at once.
Greg would personally greet every one with the ink stamp. You might have got it on your hand, maybe your head or where ever he felt it needed to be stuck. He would joke with everybody and still do his job as if he was a top notch security guard. Over the years I have worked with Greg at Octo, Drag Day, Vw Spring Picnic, Bug In, Vw Classics to name a few. He always is ready to go and has something to say (sorta like me) just his personality.

This years (June) Ed Economy Toy and Literature show (VW Classic weekend) I will donate half of every dollar I make at the door way (entry money) to Greg & Family.

I hope to be working on a raffel with some great items with all proceeds going to Greg & Family with a donation type tickets, you can pay $1.00 or $5.00 or $100.00 for a ticket what every your heart fills… Our prayers are with Greg & Family

An update from "Corona" Ryan (OEBC President):

Good morning everyone. We went to visit Greg and family last night and am just checking in with the update. The family seems to be in relatively good spirits, all things considered. There have been LOTS of friends and family stopping in. Greg's friend Daniel (I assure you, you would know him if you saw him) jumped on a plane from Colorado and has been on constant vigil at the hospital allowing Keri and family to be able to get some rest, showers, etc. Greg was just being brought back to his room after another MRI when we were there. He is still out-cold but according to the doctors that's ok as there has been no regression. Hopefully there should be improvement as the swelling subsides so with any luck we will be talking to our damaged friend. If anyone wants to visit, the family really loves the support.

Again here's the room info:
Arrowhead medical center off of the 10 FWY in Colton (pepper exit- North of the Fwy) ICU room 2201 and the family is in the waiting room directly left of ICU.

We are taking donations to help with whatever they need. If you are interested in donating anything you can take it directly to them if you're going to visit or send it to me and I will take it out. If you want to send a check here, make the check payable to:

Greg Contreras
1416 Normandy Ter
Corona Ca 92882

Any cards, cash or anything else will get to him asap as I will be out there pretty frequntly. Thanks to you all for your support and good thoughts, keep it coming and hopefully we'll have our lad back soon.

Ryan
