Hello-

I've read good things about the oil cooler sold by NLA Parts http://www.nlaparts.com/store/aluminum-cooler-p-691.html, but yesterday, I stumbled upon another sold by CSP http://classicandspeedparts.com/index.php?option=c...;Itemid=53.

The CSP is a little more expensive, but the NLA version seems to have more surface area (seven passages vs. five). Does anyone know how else they compare?

Thanks,

Paul

Been running the NLA cooler in the D for the past few years. No problems....Then again, we've never driven it in any stop and go traffic in the dead of Summer.

I would call Duane Spencer at Shasta design in lakehead,CA. He is the porsche 356/912 master. He recommends teh NLA in his books but teh CSP must have just come out.

Hello-

Thanks for the heads up. I have the most recent version of his "356 Performance Handbook", and I've read it cover to cover several times. It's too bad it's out print.

My next purchase will be a set of cylinders. He carries billet iron cylinders for pre-a's that look like they'll work on my project (2 piece case, late model crank/rods, Okrasa heads). http://www.maxted-pageandprill.com/Products/barrelsandpushro.html

BTW, as much as I like his books, I'm wondering if there are areas that are a) out of date, or b) 'off base'. Do you know of any?

Thanks,

Paul

Duane Spencer is "old school". He would not even install the compu-fire in my distributor. But I just took it home and changed it myself. I researched for over 1 year on who would build my beloved Porsche motor. I called all the "big wigs" (even CE in Lake Isabella) and nobody would burnish the cam but Duane. When I found out he was a retired aeronautical engineer and designer of the Shasta piston I felt good. But when I called him it felt like he was the right person. I went to his place and felt good but made some particular requests. When most builders saw "yah sure" and forget in the end I must say that Duane documented every detail I had requested. I have never nothing but superbly satisfied with his work/tuning ability. He is your best performance bang for the buck. I looked at all the options and he was the best for my application, a high performacne daily driver. Hope that helps, Don
