So ya, just wanted to say how extremely helpful this site has been so far. Anyways, just wanted to share my baja with everyone, btw, this is my first vw of any kind. I'm sure I'll have many questions so please be patient. Heres the pics

Little rough around the edges, but nothing I can't handle. Runs pretty well, except for an off idle sputter. Which I'm pretty sure is caused by the 009 distributor and 34 pict carb combo, found that out while searching. Btw, what size motor would come in a 69? Also, where the cooling tins painted body color at the factory? Or was there just a generic color? Trying to figure out if this is the original motor or what.

Welcome to the addiction. :D

Bubba 72 Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:09 pm

The motor is a 1600 dual port unless you know otherwise for a fact.
I'm going by the end castings but that doesn't tell you what size pistons are in it. The tins I think came in black and I doubt very seriously that it's the original motor. I'm sure it's been at least rebuilt before, but it might be the original case.
Hope this helps.
Oh, by the way......... loose the brown trim paint. Keep the Budwiser label headliner.
Looks good man, are those flared baja fenders on the rear?

WD0AFQ Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:12 pm

Welcome. And, what about that 56 in the background?

 What the .... Some one else from the heights ?
welcome neighbor . :D

Thanx guys, I was thinking the same thing about the motor at least being rebuilt, it does have a leak coming from the pushrod tubes, anyway easy way to fix this? I had to ditch the headliner, was starting to tear. Funny thing is, is that the liner was actually installed legitly, windows were out and everything. As for the rear fenders, they're fiberglass so I guess they're baja fenders. The 56 in back is my dads, it was his first car. Heres a few pics of the 56 and my 68 camaro, which my grandpa bought brand new in 1968 and my 77. I'm hoping to retire my 77 from daily driver status and use my bug. Enjoy

Dude, seriously, where about in the heights you live?

WD0AFQ Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:59 pm

Cool man, a 56 210. Don't see many of those. I had a 57 210. My dad bought me a 65 Mustang fastback in 70. I am still driving it.

Yup, everyone seems to have a Bel Air. The '77 is my first car, been driving her for the last 10 years.

I live up off Hacienda and colema .
Do you live by the school in those pics. I know exactly where that is at.
my friends grandma lives like a block from you.
You showld roll to the next socal baja meet .

BajaPete69 Tue Apr 21, 2009 2:21 pm

Yup, right across the street from the elemtary school. Thats pretty crazy. I need to make sure the baja is off road worthy before I attempt to take it anywhere. But ya, I'll definately make one of those runs.

Welcome!

Even if you are a Chevy guy! At least you've seen a little of the light...LMAO

My brother has a double nickle 210 he bought in 68 after he totalled his 64 Plymouth Max Wedge at the drags. I DO have some appreciation of tri- fives. Just gotta razz the newb.

SoCal Bajas will welcome you and the monthly meetings are in Walnut, so its not too far for ya.

BajaPete69 Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:35 pm

No worries on the razzing, I've developed pretty thick skin. Don't gotta worry about hurting my feelings. Gonna have to check out one of the meetings.

BajaPete69 Thu Jul 23, 2009 5:00 pm

Well been pretty busy with the baja the last 3 months. Where do I begin? Got her running good now, tossed the 009 and slapped in a svda distributor, got the carb rebuilt. Freshed up the shifting with a new shifter and bushings. Just check out the pics:

So much better to drive. What ya think so far?

WD0AFQ Thu Jul 23, 2009 6:44 pm

It is looking good. Get it safe and dependable. That is what I am doing to mine. When all of the mechanicals are done I will paint mine.

Nice black wheels. I'm a fan... All the old timers hate um. They just gotta have their white wheels.

So what's the plans? You gonna run it as is or do you have upgrades in mind?

BajaPete69 Thu Jul 23, 2009 7:21 pm

Need it safe and dependable, its now my DD. Time to give the Camaros a rest. As far as plans, I want to just keep it simple. I got another front beam I wanna rebuild and put adjusters on, then I can just swap them out. Then lift up the butt and have some fun in the dirt. Wanna use bedlner on the underside and the inside, prolly just keep the rubber mat I have in there now, I'd have to clean carpet. The wheels were like the first thing I painted, couldn't stand the white. :D

I'm surprised the interior looks so clean. It's always funny when someone lives in the area. I live in Rowland Heights, I always see VWs in Hacienda traveling back to Whittier. It seems there's quite a few over there.

xirxious Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:45 pm

Cool F-bodies. I had a convertable '67 camaro I'm still kicking myself for selling. Currently I have a 70 Formula and a '78 camaro along with the '71 bug.

Lotrat Fri Jul 24, 2009 12:09 am

Had a 80 Camaro, 81 Formula, 89 Formula and then a 74 Bug. Crazy I know, but it happens more often than you would think.
