Sorry, been away for a while. Lost the roof to my garage this winter in an ice storm, fortunately no damage to the car but I've had to wait for the weather to improve before I start work on it. I have some time off coming next month, going to head to NJ to the get parts and all the supporting documentation\log books\pace notes\etc. I did get the seats pulled and have started cleaning up the frames while contemplating building an ark from all the rain. I have a few other small unrelated projects to do, then I'm going to jump into this, got the Bug Me video on how to pull the body off a Super. Looks like great fun :?
The tires on it are Dunlop M+S 165-15s, I doubt they are still made but maybe? Apparently there is a bunch of other mounted tires in NJ, I'm sure they are all junk from age but will be interesting to see what they all are. I know for most of the career of the car, it ran Pirellis but all 4 currently are Dunlops.

i thought i might contribute to this amazing story
this sticker right here
"OVACIONES" is an old sports newspaper based off on Mexico City. This car have ran in mexico, so the newspaper took coverage of the race. Besides, this newspaper was the most important sports magazine back in the day.
The logo has changed since, i will try to get you a better picture so you can make a vinyl label for it |

 A few years back Racing with the Dixie Region SCCA Chapter, I used to see a decal on a Team car called "Lame Duck Racing", We used to go thru their pit dropping bread crumbs and Quacking  All in good fun. Great story and I wish you luck in this venture. |

Finally I can make an update. Work on this has started in earnest. This weekend I started cataloging and disassembling the interior bits and parts. It is a slow, tedious process but I've learned it is so important to take things apart the right way and document it. The fun part will be sorting out all the wiring, there's a ton of little jumpers running here and there. I did find a hand-drawn diagram of the auxilary lighting set up which will definitely be helpful.
I also evicted the mouse family living in the tunnel...
I hope to make the journey to NJ the first week of August if arrangements can be made. I'll share the details if it happens. |

| This is such a great thread. Once you are done with the car, I would honestly consider writing a book about the history of this car all the way from day of purchase till the day you finished the restoration. |

Cool find with awesome history. FYI those calipers and rotors are Ghia parts. Two bleeders on the same side indicate that it's a "universal" caliper, meaning it can be installed on either side. You bleed the fluid from the top bleeder valve only, and ignore the lower one.
Porsche never used this arrangement. All Porsche calipers are side-specific, on all 911, 912, and 914. Porsche calipers have two bleeders, but one bleeder is on each side of the caliper, at the top, and BOTH must be bled when you're changing the fluid.
North American super beetles are the only supers originally equipped with front drums. All European, Asian, and African market Super Beetles were equipped with front discs. |

| Thank you! Finally that debate can be put to rest. I just happened to get some Ghia brake parts in a trade, guess I should pull them out and take a look at them. |

If anyone is interested, I will most likely be loading this puppy up on a trailer and bringing it to Transporterfest next month. It doesn't look like I'm going to have my Westy on the road by then so I figure this might be a good excuse to share it with people before the restoration begins in earnest.
Which means, no, I haven't made any progress on it. Funny how things in life like work conspire to mess up all the fun stuff. |

Where is Transporterfest?
Good luck on your progress. I still say a book would be a good idea, not profitable ($), but good! |

Well, it looks like this project will have to pass onto someone else. Severe financial and domestic issues are forcing me to give up my collection of projects. Because of the sentimental and historical attachment I have to this little car, I will be selective on who it goes to.
This sucks but it is what it is. |
