Hey, I have an idea! Let's throw up a picture of a random car for sale so we can all tear it to shreds for sport.

Oops ... too late ... 8)

There is no "sport" in this one. Its like shooting a chained Moose.

$87k and you don't get matching bumpers or any taillights. Takes "crack smoking" to a new level IMO.

So if the pan is a "regular" split, and the body a '49, what exactly makes this guy think that this car is a '46?? Maybe he just has a title like the guy building the "'48 Rat Rod" ??

Well, if the pan is a 40, and the body is a 49, half of 9 is 5 1/2. So that would make it a 45 1/2 or a 46 model year.

drscope, that is a good idea but in fact half of 9 is 4and1/2 (4.5 for those of us with the metric system in Canada  ) so it should be advertised as a 45 model year, no? Maybe that would make it worth $88K!

Opps, guess I need a new battery in the calculator!

What really matters is that this car has been Meticulously restored and every effort has been made to bring it to it’s original condition.

Thanks for the pics Bjoern.

I usually refrain from commenting on other people's cars, but in this instance, I feel the need to vent my spleen. The evidently crack-smokin' vendor's cheeky asking price coupled to the fact that he is aware of the provenance of the car (due to Bjoern's input), makes me want to vomit in his breakfast and kidnap his pet cockatiel.

The pan is 1950-ish, the body is early '49, decklid is post-'49, hood is '51 or later (most probably a lot later), engine is late 25hp with wrong parts, speedometer pod appears to the late split and the other pod is made from cardboard etc etc. I especially like the attractively-coloured wiring 'nest' behind the dash. How on Earth did the vendor conclude that this is '46 instead of the 'bitsa' it really is?

A tip for the vendor if he's viewing: Divide your asking price by 10 and you may get some interest.

That is .sig line material Rich.

I don find it interesting however that those how usually decry and howl anytime someone "nit picks" someone else's car are absent here. Such as when "snorkelstang" or some other abortion is brought into a thread. Many times they are right in the fray with those. Ok to pick on those, but a hallowed, legit split for sale? How about an $87k one? Rules are different then I guess.

So what makes this car fair game? Or a snorkelstang for that matter?

IMO, the fact that the seller is asking $87K for the car does. And obvious things aside in this case, if this car were perfect in every way, but had a wrong intake or ignition coil, it would still merit polite and civil observation. As I have stated before, I think that the benefit of bringing these details out benefits all in the hobby. Nothing wrong with having or buying an imperfect split. But paying perfect split price for one that is not is a travesty....

Maybe he meant to type €17400,- instead???

Well what ever chassis, what I see on the pic seems not to be worth half way that price.

(as much as I hate to add insult to injury...)
looks like a 15'' spare snow tire there (with all 5 hubcap clips broken off) somehow its got a grooved split rear bumper with '52 overriders and a '53> front bumper, must be a transition car

That is what I am wondering! Same goes for the 1940 pan.

This same add from Gassmann is also found on a site mascus.com (also found with .cz .si .it etc.) for machinery and transportation equipment but never with a price :?: Has anyone contacted them?

Thanks for the pics Bjorn
