I got a free copper hurst shifter. It was buried in the ground with the one end sticking out. I triped over it and then realized what it was.

You should hook up with Dopebeat derrick and go battery hunting.

Went to the pick and pull yard and some guy had just bought in a panel bay that wasnt in the yard yet so I asked if I could go check it out and they were cool about it. Inside I found an og empi buggy pulley cover, had a bunch of junk in there that someone could have used but that was the only cool item, got it for like $4, sold it here for $100.

They can arrest you if you steal stuff, they check your tool bag at the one here. But little things like emblems are usually no big deal, especially if you are buying a whole bunch of stuff, often the young ladies working there will give it to me free, or find the lowest price they can, they usually arent too familiar with the parts. But pick a part is like the Walmart of junk cars and the set prices and quick turn around is how they make their loot.

It does suck on some things that should be cheap but are pricey, like a super beetle fender I got there was $40, kinda on the pricey side in my opinion.

I had a guy come by my shop and said he had 2 buses he would give me if I could get them out,I got there with my roll back and they were a mostly complete 1964 13 window and a 1966 standard off in a gully about 2 hours later and some fancy cusing I got them out.

BamaArtist Tue Sep 22, 2009 12:41 pm

What's up with all the thefts? Damn folks!!! A little honesty goes a long way. Next time your VW breaks down, blame it on karma for stealing parts.......

AndrewStapp Tue Sep 22, 2009 5:26 pm

For real, if you gotta steal it, at least dont brag about it here. You wont get much repect that way. Its people that steal hard to come by used parts driving the cost up for us that are willing to pay a fair price for them.

Losers.

at pull a part (the east coast version of pick and pull). got a nice stock steering wheel with only 2 hairline cracks in it. really nice. guy let me have it for $2. found a bunch of emblems (few bus, bug, and scripts). guy let me have for free.

ya i can safely say i have never stolen from a junkyard around here. sometimes the crap is over priced, new car prices for used VW stuff, but who cares it is still cheap! the only thing i put in my toolbox is the bolts and screws when i disassemble something then i pay for whatever i took apart at the counter. there are a grip of yards around here and they always have bugs and one yard has westy campers every now n then

Me and my friends used to do the rounds almost every week. We would hit up 3 pick n pulls and check out Saint Vincent, batter wives, ext, ext donated car lots. Sad i don't see as much air cooled stuff anymore.

My biggest score was when i found a grill, radiator and hood in the same color as my GTI.(I hit a deer) When i pulled the hood i noticed Neuspeed throttle body, sway and stress bars, springs w/ Bilstein struts. It was very hard to spin out after I installed all those goodies.

Jake Martinez Thu Jan 28, 2010 7:22 pm

i scored a og late rack, 2 58-59 mirror/visors, 1 puffed turn signal, mango bus hardboard visor, bigtop tent, berg shifter (2).

When I had my Scirocco I found a 160-mph speedo cluster. They're pretty rare. I still have it in case I get another Scirocco someday.

I've found a few things for my friend's cars. Found a G60 valve cover on a Corrado...it fits my friend's 8v VW Rabbit. I also found him a *mint* bench seat for his 1968 F-100. We swapped his out and it made the interior of his truck look MUCH better.

Local Pick-N-Pull is cool, although they hardly have any VWs, let alone ACVWs. But the staff is really nice. The only thing that sucks sometimes is if you get a grille they charge you for EVERYTHING on there, including light bulbs. Adds up quick.

Here's what I got for $50.00: Windshield with rubber, wiper arms with plastic caps, sunvisor clip holders, steering column with ignition, key, and pig-tail wires, odometer head (which I thought had already been taken), slightly bent front bumper, excellent gas tank already removed, complete gear shifter with linkage to the tranny, door handles (driver and passenger), window cranks, louvers, front and rear lights (tail and marker), speakers, and bunches of bolts and screws.

The guy is going to hold it so I can get the two front doors and the deck lid as well as the rack and pinion.

I've been trying to make this run for almost 18 months. The guy has been gracious to hold the van for me.

This has been a rare find here in my neck of the woods. Typically, it would have been crushed long ago.

Also, still on the Van, is an auxillary heater. The inlet pipe appears to be broken. I just wonder if there is anyone out in cyberspace that needs it for parts? I have the Van up on blocks in a rather safe manner. It would not be a difficult chore to remove.
