I can't remember exactly what he blasted it with, but I know he washed it multiple times. That case didn't even need an align bore....it is good to go @ standard.....lucked out on that. Anyhow, I think they did a great job on the case.

I can find out more details on his exact process if you'd like.....

I'm always one who is eager to learn, so why not? I've heard mixed reviews on soda blasting a case with people saying the soda ash will clog the passageways. I'm certain that would be due to not ensuring a thorough washing and cleaning.

I talked to Jerry yesterday, he said he uses glass beads to blast the case. He uses new beads because they leave a little bit of a shine and you got to be careful not to wash it too much or it will darken it more.

Ah, glass beads. Much different than soda blasting. Thanks for the info, and I can't wait to see the progress on this build.

I love glass beads, BUT they are nasty too, hope you get all the glass out. Ive seen a motor destroyed because of that.

You got your work cut out for you. It's coming along nicely though!

FYI, the deck above is for an earlier vert, not a '57.

sick work. :)
All id suggest, is clean that case even more, with some berrymans carb clean. its super detergent, and will pull any glass particles out of the case pores.
glass bead is a mega no no on cases.
Cant wait to see this done. :)

Okay, I'll ask...how much did that coating cost? What temp. is it good to?

Unbelievable detail, keep posting pictures.

 Damm thats the shit right there 8)

a-train Thu May 14, 2009 10:17 pm

thanks, I'm hoping it will hold up and stay shiny after putting some miles on it.......

The coating is supposedly good to 1300 F, but I have a feeling that shinyness may not look that nice after a while....hopefully though and it will be fun finding out.
