View original topic: Removing Gas Tank straps?

I started resealing my gas tank tonight and I seem to be having difficulty removing the straps.
I have the front of the van on ramps.
I removed the 13mm bolts at the front and let the straps fall, but I can't seem to get the rears removed.
The ends of the straps that won't come out have bent up ends that prevent them from being removed.
The van is an '88 if that helps.
Can anybody give me any pointers on removing the straps?

Just force them out with a twisting motion.

Seriously?
Won't that bend and possibly break them?

Take some pliers, bend the tabs straight and then they will come out. When you go to reinstall, use your pliers again and bend them so they do not come out. The metal bends easily.

Right on. Thanks.
I just don't want to break anything.
