Not much progress, getting the engine built, looking for a place to get an inexpensive trans, cleaned it up inside.
Unfortunately, I don't think the Titan Red will be saved, there's spots where it was repainted and the body work was taken down to metal. I'm thinking of pulling out all of the Beige Gray, it seems that its all there and just respraying the red, but I don't know how to make it look ok. I think the red will look too new for the og gray, anyone have suggestions on how or what to use to paint the red so it doesn't look out of place?

Sorry, my cell phone uploads directly onto photobucket

cool bus , I would be tempted to keep the red as it matches the custom dash painting , priceless ... and bomb cans with some homebody love could pass for old natty paint.. save your money for the mechanical

I was thinking of respraying at least 60% of the red with the Tower brand color matched rattle cans, or just finding some close enough Krylon. More cash for the mechanicals, its going to be a daily driver for sure!

I would agree with the color matched rattle cans... but I would also go rather lightly on the red coating considering that the top half has some patina. I would try to match that patina with a light application of the Titan Red. In a year, or two, the rust could pop back up and make the matching of top and bottom possible.

BTW, I have all but the passenger's door, and the two nose pieces of trim for you... but you really should get the mechanicals straight first.

Ya, I'm going to save whatever red i can then just match the areas that need it.
I'M soooo impatient Ive been going through all the classifieds here looking at the body trim and jailbars, but I cant :x ! Gotta get it moving first!

But, if anyone has a driver seat/ frame, I'm in need of one soon.

Looks good Steve and be patient bro it will all come together

What were you doing to pull up the old paint (or is that just primer?) that was on top of the red?

Can't say I'm a big fan of the hippy thing, but that art is old enough that it qualifies as cool in my book! heheh I say keep it if you can.

stede Wed May 27, 2009 12:52 pm

we'll hot box that mutha when i'm out in cali.

Thanks Rich! I'm trying not to go crazy, little by little. Oh yea, cant wait to see the Ghia! and the 15, and the split 'vert, and so on, you know.

I've been using "heavy duty easy off" its a black can, with some green scotch brite pads and 500 grit sandpaper. Thats og beige gray on the top of the nose. The gray is coming up real nice, just the red thats requiring attention.

Not a hippy guy here either, but it qualifies as "logos" to me lol.

Thanks Danny, I'm gonna wait to hit up the next Pomona see what I can pick up there, then Ill start looking further.
I didn't get to stop by Rays this weekend, I got the chance to work some ot that morning and double-time is pretty good right now for the classic weekend!
As far as "hotboxing" the bus, thats all its good for right now

Sweet bro 8) What day were you heading down next week?

Busryder Thu Jun 04, 2009 11:07 pm

Do you have any before/after pic's? It is nice to see someone proceeding on in their project, rather than lagging like myself.

I fit the logo's; and I love the smell of flowers... keep 'em, for historical reasons.

oldeskool65 Fri Jun 05, 2009 2:00 am

Dont worry, im lagging it too, gotta wait til the classic week is over, then ill get serious

^^I can't wait to drive this thing, its my first bus!

I've decided to steal the trans out of my dead '67 baja and lose the RGBs, the bus already has an adjustable beam in it so I'll be able to bring the front down to compensate for the straight axle setup.

^^^Sweet, I wish I had that much og paint. Not much progress due to moving, but we're settled now. I've been buying little things here on the samba and swaps.
I just got a '68 swingaxle trans, I'm a little bit confused on what I need to run this. I know I need to get the notched spring plates. The trans came with axles and axle tubes, can I use these axle tubes? And I'm planning on running stock wheels, can I use type 1 backing plates and thing drums, like I have read.
