...but not for me

In my never ending quest to mentally catalog every bus within a 100 miles of me at any given time, I came across a new one this morning. It was sitting in the back of this used car lot and I caught a glimpse as I drove by so I turned around and went back. I pulled in expecting the calvery of salespeople to come running as I was driving the girlfriends Audi and reeked of fresh meat, but to my surprise no one came out. At all. The whole time I was there.

Weird.

It was unlocked and I crawled all over the thing checking it out. It is a pretty nice bus actually. The paint looks new and the exterior is perfect. I checked for rust in the usual spots and couldn't find much. It is a '71 hardtop Westy. Interior is pretty clean but needs a couple small things (sunvisor clips, cabinet handles).

The engine had duals and and an exhaust (no idea what the engine size is). I finally went looking for someone to talk to about it and ran into a lot boy who happened to like VWs and loved to talk about this one. He said that he had driven it a couple times and it drives well, they also had it checked out by a mechanic before the put it up for sale (he really sounded like he wanted to by it himself). Anyway, I snapped a couple pictures and thought I would put it up here. I had not seen it anywhere online for sale so it is off most people's radar, if you want more pictures or info I can always stop back by on my way to work. They are asking $5K for it...

Wow, that looks nice! Is that up in B'ham?

Yeah I also try and find as many ACVW's that I can. That looks like a pretty good deal and would not last long on a lot around here. Thanks for sharing as I'm sure many people are drooling over the sight of this one.

Hey it's Washington State and it's raining again!! :) Imagine that!!

Actually in Burlington. I just came across the website of the place if anyone wants to get in contact with them.

I would offer then 3500 cash and go from there. Maybe they will settle for 4,000 cash. It should be a 1600 dual port and have a 34 PCI VW carb on it which suck. I would check all the lights and be sure to check the fuse box wiring and under the dash wiring and the same in the back. The more things you can find that is kind of butchered the cheaper you can get it. If I had the cash I would go up and check it out. But I already have a 71 and love it.

From what I'm hearing about the condition as well as what the pics show I'd say $5k isn't too much to ask. Of course, like was said it would be best to start with a much lower offer and work your way up from there. 1971 bus, nice paint, no visible rust. If it's mechanically sound I'd say it's a good one to consider seriously.

The original post is 6 months old, maybe someone will chime in and let us know what happened with it.
