View original topic: Can I move the Brake Line down?
dougrbutler Fri Aug 08, 2003 6:31 am

I am cutting, welding and grinding around the front edge of the belly pan and the brake line that runs to the rear wheels is attached along the belly pan and also attached in a few places on the frame as it goes to the master cylinder. I need to move it just an inch or so out of the way while I work on the rusty metal. I would like to avoid detaching it from the master cylinder or the rear of the bus, and was wondering if I undo the screw-in clamps that hold it in place up by the front wheel, will there be enough play to drop it down and out of the way to work?

Thanks,

Doug

I would disconnect it rather than risk bending and kinking the line. Just have to bleed the brakes when finished, plugging both ends of the open line helps reduce the time it takes to bleed them.

Doug,

I am in the process of working on rust removal on my bus and have dealt with that exact area you are talking about. If you bend back the tabs on the belly pan that hold the brake line and loosen/remove the small screw in tabs between the m/c and the front edge of the belly pan you can slip the line a little to the side. If you are grinding right there, duct tape a piece of sheet metal between the area you are working and the brake line to prevent accidentally cutting into the line. I used a mig welder to do my repairs so the heat didn't get near the brake line. Be real careful if you are using a torch.
