My current project has taken on a life of it's own but I'm making progress. The #1 thing I've learned is just how great a body this Westy has. Essentially rust free except for surface rust.

I thought I'd share a few things I've found and like.

I decided to go with the GoWesty fuel line kit and I'm glad I did. I really like the ear clamps a lot better than the screw type. I purchased a Oetiker set of pliers and they work great! I used them to remove some of the oem clamps which was a cinch. Just offset the pliers on the edge of the clamp and snip snip. I can see how these ear clamps distribute pressure uniformly, especially important on the fuel hose to rigid fuel line fitting on the firewall. The grommet was a nice addition also. My plastic fitting broke while I was removing it.

The next tool I purchased was a Snap On Crud Thug. Found it on Craigslist for $150.00 SCORE!!! I started stripping down the passenger side rear fender arch due to some rust issues and wouldn't you know it, the PO had some work done and instead of shaping the metal and prepping it correctly they threw a bunch of Bondo and shaped it. The Crud Thug ripped through everything down to the metal. I'm doing the 'Blackout' project to the van so I snuck up to the seams and got a good portion of the sealer out without damaging the other side of the seam much. Then I used the following to dig out the sealer about a 1/4 inch inside the seam.

Then I took a top hopper sand gun and cleaned out the seam further. It has a very narrow spread and works well for seams.

The Crud Thug dig a great job of tearing through the OEM undercoating and sealer on the inside of the well. Tomorrow I'm going to dig as much of the sealer out as possible and finish it up with the 3M Panel Adhesive.

I'm planning on running a coat of Por 15 on the inside and outside of the new repair followed by a coat of Por 15 Straightline Filler.
