Quote: still have to track down somebody to do the machining on them to fit the type 1 spindles.

talk to lanner at VDub Engineering, he did mine plus a custom width kafer brace for the 944 rear set up on my 61 beetle.

Hi Shawn I dont know ya but I know the car. I use to hang out at Carl's when he use to race, can not believe what you done to it good on ya nice work. :D

8) Thanks! I picked the car up from a guy named Terry in Masstown... I think the car had traded hands a few times by the time he had it.

Got the stock bushings out of the 944 turbo trailing arms and with some elbow grease we got the Type 3 bushings and sleeves in place and bolted the arms to my rear subframe.

At first I considered narrowing the rear end... but the offset would be too much for the spring plate.

7s on the back, the 8s have mad poke.

So I am faced with machining the 8s to get them to fit or just track down new wheels with a smaller offset.

supaninja Sun Feb 27, 2011 11:54 am

whats the offset on those wheels?

terrym1 Mon Feb 28, 2011 4:37 am

Carl is Terry's dad he lives next door ,looks real good Porche set up in rear nice touch.

The aluminum trailing arms have more offset than the steel ones...

Steel arms; Beetle/T3, or 944, are your only hope.
Even though they, unfortuantely, don't look near as cool.

I am going with custom spring plates and heim joints from Punchdrunk Customs. :)

Very cool to have a bit more info about it's past! I will be sure to go see Terry and his Dad when it is road worthy!

With some elbow grease I tucked the rear last night. I'll be getting a loan of a fender roller to get the rest of the clearance I need. I am thinking that the front is going to tuck as well, but I need the weight of the car to compress the airbag and twist the torsion packs in the air beam. A jack under one side isn't enough at this point.

They are 7x16 et23 and 8x16 et30 But I am going all backwards with this and running the 8's up front with a well stretched tire and the 7's out back with beefier rubber.

Mike Fisher Wed Mar 02, 2011 9:55 am

I'd cut/heli-arc them all down to 6" and be done with my wheel/tire/lowering problems. You can put beefy tires on 6" wheels.

Well I have been working on the car lots, just haven't bothered with too many pictures lately. I am now on the hunt for a front bulkhead panel... mine is just too far gone to save. Pin holes everywhere! Much worse than I originally thought it was.

If anyone has a donor section, please send me a private message!

Any progress? Very interested in seeing updates.

shaunl Sat Apr 16, 2011 6:48 pm

Yeah made some progress in the left front fender well. Waiting to hear from Supaninja on that front bulkhead repair panel....

This '72 Klamath Indian donor section is on it's way to Nova Scotia. You have over 1/2 of that car now. :D

I friggin love this build! Mike's bulkhead will require less massaging to make it fit then mine. Keep us updated homie!
