Not here. I don't feel like getting bent over by customs every time I order something from the states either.
That is exactly what I was talikng about. Shipping can get expensive real quick. If you've got a semi-cheap Square close by that's in fairly good shape, it could become a cheap parts donor. Shipping a front fender across the USA will easily cost 50+, then add in the cost of the fender. Now add in customs, and you're out some more. Buy 2 of them, and a hood, and you'll have your 1000 spent real quick. Depending on how complete the Square is, you might be able to use some of the smaller bits and pieces that your Notch is missing. Remember, the rear fenders, doors and rear trunk lid are Notch only, the rest interchanges directly. That means floors, front beam, gas tank, transmission, engine, wiring harness, front and middle carpet, front seats (up to 72), lights gauges, headlight rings, bumpers, door parts, windsheild, it's all the same, as long as they are both semi-close to the same year. The 70 to 73's are very similar, except fresh air box, and the wiper assemblies (changed in 71). The 62 to 69's are different from the later cars.
1970 and later windshields, if original, cannot be used. Volkswagen went with a shorter windshield with clips at the bottom. Safety feature. However, it might only be in the U.S, now that I think about it. But, still check, as the seal is N.L.A.. |

| All you have to do is remove the clips, and an older windshield will work in a newer car. |

Russ, thank you on that clarification. I researched windshields, as mine is only 75 to 80 percent clear. |

Alright well I've pretty much convinced myself that I need to pickup this Square for use as a parts car. Here's some pics.

| So I just talked to my buddy. He wants the Squareback body for a future project. I'll take the chassis, front fenders, apron and whatever else I need that doesn't require cutting it up. We'll keep the Squareback in storage and put it back on the road once he's finished building his VR6 Rabbit. |

| The apron takes a lot of cutting/drilling! |

I like the fact it has curtains; something you do not see every day. Do you have any pictures of the setup? I plan on reinstalling curtains, but not sure how it was done. Does it have camping hinges? Seems possible, considering the curtains. If so, hold tight onto them. Fairly rare, and they are very useful.
To me, the Squareback looks to be a '71, with the flow though ventilation, chrome light bases, and the non-collapsible steering wheel. If it is a '71, the column parts will not fit the '70, F.Y.I.. |

So I am still on a parts hunt. I'm at a loss to track down pans... so I just went to ISP's site and was all set to order a set (because I can't wait and have to get this project started) only to find they don't ship to Canada.
Awesome. |

Do you have someone on this side of the border that they can ship to?? Then drive across the border and hand carry them over. |

Yeah, that's what the guys over near Toronto do. They have UPS hold the parts in Buffalo, and then come get them. Cheaper than shipping across the border.
Doesn't Mike Fisher have a full uncut set set for sale? Thought I read on here he did. :-k |

I bought the Square today. It is indeed a '71 and in great shape, except for one hole in the pan under the rear seat on the driver's side. Battery tray is fine. I'm sorry to say that I am more than likely going to cut it up to put the Notch back in order.... sorry guys. *ducks*
It just makes the most sense from a parts cost stand point. |

You got to do what you have to do. I say a '71 is better than a '70, but you do not have much choice being in Canada. |

| I have no choice. Between duty and shipping I would be into this project for a lot more than what I'm at right now. Plus I can sell off what I don't use on the Square. This makes my girlfriend happy. :D |

Yup. Neil and I cut up a 71 Square (that would have been considered clean by east coast standards) for donor pieces for my Notch. That car litterally gave it's all for me. 8) Besides 71 Squares are a dime a dozen (I cut the roof off mine), but 70 Notchbacks are just cool and hard to find. Most of the parts will interchange directly, especially the front sheetmetal. The floors (or pan) can be used as well, although the rear foot well back wall will have to get the hinges trimed off. The doors themselves won't directly interchange (due to the hinges), but the rest of the metal can be used as patch material. |

I'm starting to plan ahead with some of the modifications to the Notch... and one thing I would love to do is ditch those huge front signals. Are there any headlight assemblies out there with integrated signals? Or am I dreaming?
Early signals? |

| I'd weld up the big hole and put early wraparound or bullets. |
