A nice set of dual carbs with a good linkage would be something to plan for in the future.
That does sound like a good idea. I have also thought about putting an upright dual carb engine in. During my quest for a Bus, I drove a 68 Bay with a 1600 DP in it and it felt like my Bug and was familiar to my eyeballs.
Does that make any sense?
With as clean as your bus is, I wouldn't mess with it. Unless you're planning to do it super-clean and extremely tidy, it wouldn't be worth it.
I have a 71 upright engine in my bus and though it runs great and all, I would much rather have it be stock and have more power on hills.
I'm also having to correct frustrating issues the previous owners didn't even think about, mainly welding proper brackets and installing a mustache bar to support the engine from a 71 bus, and installing a custom tin to seal any gaps in the engine bay and keep the motor as cool as possible. |

I'll take all your points into consideration. Thanks. Sounds like it may not be worth the undertaking. |

Not saying I'm going to but how bad would I fock this Bus up (if at all) if I were to lower it? Not necessarily 'slam it' but just a few inches lower. Can it be done while still retaining decent handling or is it a compromise? Looks vs. function.
*edit* Maybe I should just read thru the sticky, eh? |

Doesn't affect handling too much, but if you hit a stock height SUV at 20 MPH, you will sustain a lot more damage than if you kept it stock height. The bumper is there for a reason.
It's in the crash test sticky. |

Well I literally laughed out loud twice reading this!
I'm a sloooow sumbitch in this thing! What a line! For you stock guys, I guess!! 8)
And the prayer was great as well!!
As for the bus: Looks great!! Congrats!
There is NOTHING else like it!! |

Keep the type 4 engine as it has more torque than a type 1. Driveability is all about torque.
See if you can find a good set of dual carbs for it (dual 2 barrels like Spanish Weber 40 IDFs would be ideal). A weber "regressive" is a pretty lame set up on a type 4 engine.
I don't like lowered buses myself, but to each their own. |

Thanks brother man. Your Bus is killer! And, I'm diggin' the skim board table.
I could live with that ride height too. What set up and tire size you got going on there?
**Keep on Pickin'**

"...to each their own". Ain't that the beauty of life! Thanks for the dual carb suggestion, Randy. Thats the second I've received and it's got me intriuged. I have no idea what a "regressive" is so I'll search out the Spanish Webers.
I have to admit, after driving the Bus for a while now, the stock pancake engine (however unfamiliar) is growing on me. |

You have a "progressive" weber, so little liked that Randy called it a "regressive". This carb has a very poor reputation with T4. Not that it has a very good with T1 engines either... |

Thanks for the clarification, Pierre. The sarcasm was over my head  . I have a lot to learn. |

I 'm doing my search for a IDF 40 dual weber set up and I find a listing in the classifieds that says they "are not legal in California" (where I am). Can anyone verify this or shoot it out of the sky?
here is the add.

| Ras, you're bus is too old for anyone in the system to be fishin' around in the engine bay. No smog needed. Buy whatever fuel system you want  |

Finally had some dual Solex 44 carbs installed as suggested by some fine folks here. Glad I did 'cause it feels great to drive now. Mas power.
I also bailed on the idea to lower it. Fark that. Went with some all terrain tires instead and kept it stock height.
Thanks all. |
