i have been building my baja for almost a year now so i thought i would start a thread becuase it is geeting closer to being completeted. i bought it in august last year and started collecting parts and started tearing it down around november. it a 68 bug converted to IRS. it had a bolt in cage, eight inch wider wright beam and bolt on bumpers. the front was extened about seven inches by welding a piece of 2x4" steel tubing directly to the frame head it was pretty scarry.

the cage: all chromoly tubing, mostly 1 3/4" .095

the front: 6" wider beam, fodrill combo spindles, kustom 1 4" longer front arms with 7/8" link pins, gear one two piston disc brakes, fox 2.0 remote resivor coil overs

the rear: 3x3, gear one four piston disk brakes, 14" fox remote resivor coil over, 16" fox double bypass

how it started

the scary front end extention

the bolt in cage

and then the real work started

lifting the body to weld the top of the cage

Good to see that your doors are still open. Too many of the big names have become victims of a poor economy.

Not to be difficult, but I like the BFG's on the BTR's. Where you gonna test it out?

Nice Job. I am currently gathering parts for my grandsons Baja. Anyway I could get your number and give you a call. Not alot of baja's in Wyoming. I am in need of some help and getting a game plan going.
Thanks

Pretty cool work. I mis-read the top and thought you mean you were extending the front with the 2x4 lol.
I like the plating between the beam tubes, I hadn't thought of that.
Whats the reason for the angle at which the front beam is set? I was thinking something that has the effect of preloading the suspension.
The bigger tires center in the wheelwells better, I have wondered why no one has made a 1 pc front clip that is pushed fwd 3 in or so. It probably helps having the highest point of the fender above where the tire will be at full compression rather than normal ride.
