Those BTR's are sick! Makes me hate my Baja! haha

tanner_122 Tue Feb 16, 2010 7:18 pm

busks baja is sick it is one of my favorite bajas of all time!! :D

i love the crazy articulation

I was curious with the 33's is it difficult
to turn? Or does that rack make it pretty
easy? Love the bug by the way, makes
me wish mine was done already!

busk Tue Feb 16, 2010 9:41 pm

thanks everyone,

it would probably be difficult to turn with the 33s but i run power steering and its the best thing i ever did, crusing through the rough stuff with one hand on the wheel makes the car really comfotable to drive and not to mention anyone in my family can hop in the drivers seat and drive it all day, no big arms needed :D

Sevnty4Baja Tue Feb 16, 2010 11:25 pm

What exactly do you use to setup a power steering system on a baja? I want to run the same size tire in the front eventualy and would also like to cruise round steering with one hand only!

Squeek151 Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:18 am

ok so i thought you ran a rack and pinion
but then i realized thats before you built
it up more.

ok tons of questions happening in 3...2...1

Do you have photos of the power steering
pump etc?
How much power do you think you lost?
What size motor do you have?
Who did you go through for your power
steering system pump and all?

I thought if I ran powersteering on a bug
motor i'd lose all my power. (So called bug
"experts" told me so.) If I could i'd rather
so I can use 33's instead of 31's.

Thanks for everything.

i still run a rack and pinion all i did to it was weld a tab on the bottom to mount the ram off of. i run a 1914 in the car and to be honest i dont know how much power is lost because i never ran the car without power steering. i got all the hard parts, pump, braket, resivore, servo and ram through Kartek and i plumbed it all with XRP hose and fittings sorry everything is so dirty have not made it all the way to the front cleaning yet. if you have any other questions feel free to ask

pump

resivore

rack and ram

servo

In so cal any off road shop can set you up with power steering,(race ready, kartek, mckenzies, orw)roughly about 1200 last time i checked, you can get good deals in classifieds, howe ps uses only 1hp and 3hp at full lock.

Squeek151 Wed Feb 17, 2010 11:10 pm

wow i love that set up and that
made p/s an easy decision so
thanks for that! I couldn't imagine
it as a hp killer but you know
how it goes everyone thinks
they know everything.
thanks for all the info!

how did the desert traks work out??

busk Thu Jun 10, 2010 11:41 pm

the dezert traks worked great. i just kept them air down to about 10 psi and the car was great for crusing around, its just not geared right for the sand.

Small update here is how it sits as of a couple hours ago

the tranny is going in for service tommorow and then im have to add one of these

Good luck on the motor upgrade. If you need a hand, give me a call. I wouldn't mind saying hi to your pops anyway!

busk Fri Jun 11, 2010 5:40 pm

Skidmark Fri Jun 11, 2010 5:53 pm

Skidmark Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:25 am

He already has the Ecotech engine... really looking forward to seeing the install on this one!

riNR Sun Jun 13, 2010 6:39 am

Once the Ecotech goes in, no more flying the Volkswagen flag on your whip. You've gone to the other side then.
