I'm working on a customer's '63 Double Cab. He's got the original style Flat-4 BRM's, and we're trying to come up with some chrome lug nuts for it. I got a stud/nut kit from a name brand reputable VW parts supplier, advertised as the correct kit for our Bus drum and BRM wheels.
Got'em in today, and in our opinion, the supplied studs are to short. The kit we got is the standard 14mm inner-1/2-20 outer stud kit sold by manny suppliers for the BRMs. We are only getting 4 threads worth(1/4" ) of contact on the lug nuts, only half of the "thread contact=stud diameter" rule of thumb.
I contacted the supplier and he assured me that this is the correct stud/nut kit, and that they've sold hundreds of them with no problems. I looked around, and all the stud kits sold for BRMs seem to be the same kit sold by different vendors.
Anybody else run into this when using studs and BRMs? If you're using studs and nuts, where'd you get them, and how much thread contact do you have? |

| I have found that the 6.5" BRM's take longer studs that the narrower sizes. |

Is there a solid answer or size lug someone can list for this issue. We recently ran into the same problem, different manufacture maybe?
We just need long lugs, anyone know the answer? |

| I took one of my wheels and a drum to the nearest tire shop so I could make sure I bought the correct length. It probably took 30 seconds to solve the issue. |

when dealing with bolts
ANY bolts
the amount of thread that should be captured
should be No Less than Half the diameter of said bolt
lugs are 14mm (.55")
so it should have atleast 7mm (.27") of threads in the brakes to hold the wheels
stock lugs are 18 or 19mm (3/4") long (threaded shank)
if im correct
so add the thickness of said wheel
most aftermarket wheels i would believe are 1/4" to 3/8" thick
so most would be a lug with a 28-30mm threaded shank"
the rear has to go thru the unthreaded drum (bout 4mm)
and into the *whatever they are called*
wich isnt but about 3/8" thick (if im correct)
the front (disc) has probably 1/2" to 3/4" of threads to hold the lugs
??So what did you figure out
my friend has 2.0 fuchs and is trying to find the right lugs |

| I ended up buying the longer 14mm race studs for the 6.5" wheel. After spending $75 on studs and lugnuts....finally figured it out. |

| The long lugs for BRMs that I bought from CIP1 were way too short. I ended up buying a set of Gorilla Lugnuts from a local discount tire that work great. I am in the process of returning these short ones back to CIP1 for a refund. |

| if you have the early flat four you need the longer bolts the seating surface is larger then the newer style |
