Came across this pic in a book about German cars by Werner Oswald

Any chance this car is among the survivors?

Hi Marcel

This car has the late style front trim and late style bumpers.
In the registry is only 1 late style car. That is the red one in the Grundmann collection and the last Rometsch Lawrence build.

here's a better picture of the 13th coupe in your photo file... fresh out of 30 years of storage. I'm liking the dust bowl look of Mr. "rustymonsterspeedgarageboxwell" here that drug it out!

Yes, I also got the pictures today:

The car looks pretty good. It was bought by a Dutch guy that lives in Germany.

Thanks for the fashion compliment Eric...
This is an extremely nice Rometsch. The restoration could be a simple one...compared to what we are all used to seeing; to make one of these rare cars solid again. Thank you Patrick for helping find the right new home.

Hi Jason

Thanks for picking up this car. The car will get a good new home.

When I see these new pictures, I regret I didn't buy it for myself. This car looks much better than my rust bucket.

Looks good. But is that the rear screen wich lays broken on the backseat?
Is the source known where Rometsch got them from?
I would guess they used an existing one from another brand.

Yes, the plexiglas rear screen is broken and is on the backseat.

these plexiglas rear windows can be made. This os already done for the Black lawrence restored by Lenny and now in the collection of flat4 and also for the VW museum Lawrence. The restorer of that car still has the mould he used for the museum car and probably that mould wil lbe used again to make a window for this car

That's an understatement

 I'm amazed to see how well preserved this newly found car is, this will be an 'easy' restoration, that is if that exists...

Anyway, good luck to both owners with these projects !

This is the final prove that car nr 13 & 14 is the same car.

Car was sold to Lenny Copp in 2002/2003.

Foreign Car Guide cover shot featuring a Lawrence... at a show in New Jersey. Sadly no info on the owner or car inside the mag. The show was called "Herbst Festag" and was a rally and Gymkhana held in Long Branch New Jersey at the Adventurer Motel. It was hosted by the Philadelphia Volkswagen Club. I wonder where this car is now!

Here you go, a followup article from the May 1961 issue:

Nice to see #547 getting some attention at Lenny's!

pbaptist Sun Oct 31, 2010 2:14 pm

Thanks for putting the scan of article.

It is a 1958 convertible with the curved bodystyle and round taillight. It can very well one of the known cars, but without further investigation we will never know for sure

The trip speedometer might be a clue, if it's still with the car.
